NBA Draft Grades

Well basketball fans, the draft is behind us and we can officially look towards next year. There were two main themes I kept discussing before the draft:

1. The depth this class had. That's still accurate as evidenced by last night. Look at some of the undrafted guys as discussed by Jay Bilas:

- Alabama took a hit with both JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell going undrafted. So did Georgetown after Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims went unselected. Add New Mexico's Drew Gordon, Xavier's Tu Holloway, Long Beach State's Casper Ware, Wisconsin's Jordan Taylor, Ohio State's William Buford, Texas' J'Covan Brown, West Virginia's Kevin Jones and Iona's Scott Machado to the list of players who didn't get picked.

2. The trades we were expecting. They didn't happen. There weren't big moves containing key players or high draft picks. The highest pick involved last night was 17. Most, including myself, expected movement up and down the board, starting with the second overall pick. Oh well.
To cap off the draft process, below we will grade every team A-Z on how Thursday went for them:

Atlanta Hawks
Players: John Jenkins, Mike Scott
Grade: B

The good news is that they filled some holes and got players that can contribute immediately. Jenkins was the best shooter in the draft and can contribute off the bench in that role. Scott is an experienced player that can give them some inside punch off the bench. With rumors swirling about Josh Smith, it was key to get another 4 man. Neither pick though was a "Wow" pick.

Boston Celtics
Players: Jared Sullinger, Fab Melo, Kris Joseph
Grade: A-

I thought Boston had a great first round. I don't care about Sully's injury risk... he's the best low post scorer in the draft and will contribute immediately. Fab Melo is big and he is a great inside defender. Remember they parted with Kendrick Perkins last year, and Melo can fill that role. His upside is also huge.

The reason the draft wasn't perfect is that they didn't add shooting. With the potential loss of Ray Allen, I thought they needed shooting, even if it was acquired in the second round. They stayed put and got Kris Joseph, who has upside, but doesn't really have an NBA position. Their offseason work is key now to keep/sign shooting.

Brooklyn Nets
Players: Tyshawn Taylor, Tornike Shengelia, Ilkan Karaman
Grade: D

The good here is Tyshawn Taylor. I think he can be a servicable starter for a long time (similar to Chalmers on Miami). The bad is that they need talent and they didn't have a first rounder. I'd would have much preferred the high pick than getting Gerald Wallace. Also, they need help now and getting two foreign guys doesn't do much for them. They will continue to be bad (particularly if Williams leaves and Howard never comes). Not a great night for me.

Charlotte Bobcats
Players: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Jeff Taylor
Grade: A+

I think the Bobcats finally did something good. I said before the draft that although Davis was the best prospect in the draft, MKG is the best player. So getting him at number 2 was the correct play in my opinion (as opposed to trading it). Jeff Taylor is similar to Taylor, but just not as talented. He is a winner and will also contribute immediately. These guys can help change the culture.

The move they made pre-draft to get Gordon and a pick was nice also. Gordon can give them some scoring punch that they need now. The pick could end up being a great lottery pick. That can lead to another game changer. These were all steps in the right direction.

Chicago Bulls
Players: Marquis Teague
Grade: A

I think this is tremendous value. Teague could have been much higher in a normal draft, and easily top 10 a year from now. He can be a backup right now (and great insurance for Rose), but can also become a star. They are really in need of a scorer/shooter though so now they must turn to free agency. Unfortunately for them, they didn't have a second round pick which could have been used to fill this need.

Cleveland Cavaliers
Players: Dion Waiters, Tyler Zeller
Grade: C

This was an interesting draft for the Cavs. Ultimately they wanted Beal at 2 and failed to pull off the deal. So I though Waiters was a reach at 4. In fact, I think he is similar to Irving in many ways instead of complimenting him. The trade they did pull off was both good and bad. The bad was that they gave up 3 very quality picks to move up 7 spots. That seems like a ton to me! The good though was that Tyler Zeller has a lot of skill, goes well with there team, and fills a need. He will be a great big to run the floor with Irving and Waiters. Overall though, it was just an average draft.

Dallas Mavericks
Players: Jared Cunningham, Bernard James, Jae Crowder
Grade: C

Even though Tyler Zeller would have been a great fit for them, I thought their trade to get 3 quality picks was great. The problem is that I don't think they took advantage. Cunningham has upside and fills a need, but was a total reach. He could have been acquired mid-second round (or at least with one of their picks in the early 30's). Bernard James is a feel good story, but he's 27 and very unpolished. Jae Crowder is sort of out of position at the NBA level. All three picks to me were terrible value for their spots and no help immediately. In fact, it's no help in the long term either except for maybe Cunningham.

Denver Nuggets
Players: Evan Fournier, Quincy Miller, Izzet Turkyilmaz
Grade: B+

I'm usually not a big fan of drafting and stashing oversees (hence only a B+). But in this case I thought they did a good job. Denver currently has a lot of depth and are lacking in stars. So by drafting who they did I think they drafted by potential. Fournier was the best European player and prospect in the draft and could be a big time scorer. Izzet is a 7'0 perimeter big man, similar to Dirk (although I doubt he'll be that good). Both of these guys can be kept in Europe to develop since they have so many quality players currently on roster. Quincy Miller could be the steal of the draft. He has top 10 talent and upside, yet they got him in the second round. He is another guy that could turn into a star they lack.

Detroit Pistons
Players: Andre Drummond, Khris Middleton, Kim English
Grade: A+

Another team that took advantage of where they were drafting. They were looking for another big to pair with Greg Monroe and they got one. In fact, I think he's one of the better overall prospects in the draft and he is a different type of player than Monroe. The front line now has Robinson/Duncan size (although probably not ability). I thought they also drafted well in the second round. Middleton would have been a first rounder had injuries not slowed him down. English gives them shooting and scorer that they lost in Ben Gordon. Many though English could have been a late first rounder so they got him at a great spot.

Golden State Warriors
Players: Harrison Barnes, Festus Ezeli, Draymond Green, Ognjen Kuzmic
Grade: A

This team had a lot of holes to fill and they did a good job filling many of them. Barnes has more upside than possibly anyone not named Davis. He gives them a scorer they lacked since the Monta trade. Ezeli gives them size that they coveted and could be a contributor sooner than most think. I love Green. He gives them a player at SF that knows how to win and be a team player. Kuzmic is another big they could afford to stash. They actually have some decent depth now so it was important to stash someone.

Houston Rockets
Players: Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, Terrence Jones
Grade: B

They never were able to get that top 10 pick they coveted. Nor were they able to trade Kyle Lowry (who is getting more and more disgruntled). But they did get 3 guys that can contribute now and possibly grow into stars. Lamb could become a big time 2 guard. The only issue is that Kevin Martin is there so his minutes could be limited unless they play small. White and Jones both are versatile and have great upside. They are similar though in their position so figuring out how to play and develop both of them will be a challenge. I would have preferred taking Zeller at 16 (cause they need a big) and drafting either White or Jones at 18. That would have filled more of what they needed.

Indiana Pacers
Players: Miles Plumlee, Orlando Johnson
Grade: F

My team did the worst job last night. They had the chance to get a real difference maker at 26 and they went with Miles Plumlee. What are you thinking Indiana? His ceiling is a backup player. You already have that in Tyler Hansbrough. I agree they needed a big, but why not Perry Jones whose ceiling is a superstar. I don't get it at all. If they really wanted him (for reasons unknown) they could have traded into the second round to take him there. In fact, he may have went undrafted. The paragraph at the top that contains some of the undrafted guys, I like most of them more than Plumlee and Indiana took him at 26 overall. Just stupid! Orlando Johnson could be a big time scorer which is nice... but Miles Plumlee?

LA Clippers
Players: Furkan Aldemir
Grade: D

It hurt they didn't have a first rounder. Now, the success of their season next year will come down to free agency. Furkan doesn't do anything for them and doesn't fill their needs. They need shooting and scoring... like now.

LA Lakers
Players: Darius Johnson-Odom, Robert Sacre
Grade: B

Just like the Clips, not having a first rounder hurt them last night. In a great class like this it would have been nice. I hated their off-season (and in-season) moves last year so I hope they do better. They took some nice steps here. Even though these 2 were late second rounders, they are talented and experienced players that may contribute immediately. They need that.

Memphis Grizzlies
Players: Tony Wroten Jr.
Grade: A-

They had only one pick in the draft but I think they got a potential all-star. He is similar to Rondo (as Jay Bilas said last night) in that he can't shoot but he does everything else well. If he can step in and play point, they could then use Conley as draft bait to get a big time scorer they need. I joked on Twitter last night they could send Conley and Mayo to the Hornets for Eric Gordon (who NO could do a sign and trade). Then they would be in business.

Miami Heat
Players: Justin Hamilton
Grade: A-

The defending champs drafted like the champs. They don't need a player to step in immediately because they already are the best. By trading their first rounder, they got a future first rounder (GREAT) and they saved the money of signing a first rounder now. They have a lot of long term contracts in place so that money is key. The pick they did make in the second round was all about size. And they could use size. Nice pick.

Milwaukee Bucks
Players: John Henson, Doron Lamb
Grade: B

They got a big and a guard. I like that. Lamb as second round pick was awesome. He is the second best shooter in the draft and that is key. His upside is also high. Henson is raw but a good defender. I'm not a big fan of him however. At 14 though it wasn't all that bad, although his former teammate Zeller (who I love) would have been better for me.

Minnesota Timberwolves
Players: Robbie Hummel
Grade: C

I actually think it was a good value pick. He is smart and adds shooting they need. I don't think he can be a huge difference maker however, but at 58 that's okay. The only real problem I had is that they didn't have a pick until 58. That kills a team that needs talent.

New Orleans Hornets
Players: Anthony Davis, Austin Rivers, Darius Miller
Grade: A+

They really got some major assets last night. Obviously, Davis was the best prospect in the draft. He is one of the more promising big men we have had in the draft in a while. I also think Rivers can be a superstar. He has the talent and attitude to become great. Darius Miller is a very good second round pick. He fills a need vacated when Ariza was traded. He give a lot and can play right away.

The thing they have to decide is what position Rivers will play. To me, he is very similar to Eric Gordon: a small scoring 2 guard. Will they sign Gordon? Will Rivers move to point guard? Will they get a point guard in free agency? That's the next thing to work through. But in terms of acquiring talent, they did the best out of any team in the draft.

New York Knicks
Players: Kostas Papanikalaou
Grade: D

For analysis, see LA Clippers.

Oklahoma City Thunder
Players: Perry Jones III
Grade: A+

I loved their pick last night. PJIII has top 5 talent but hasn't realized it yet. If he does, getting him this late could be the pick of the draft. This gives them a potential star 4 man as good as Kevin Garnett. Also, they were thinking about trading Harden to get #2 and glad they didn't. If they can keep him long term and let PJIII develop into a star, they now have studs at every position and I love this lineup:

PG Russell Westbrook
SG James Harden
SF Kevin Durant
PF Perry Jones III
C  Serge Ibaka

Orlando Magic
Players: Andrew Nicholson, Kyle O'Quinn
Grade: A

More than anything, they needed another impact player and they got that with Nicholson. He can be a great 4 man for a long time. Him and Howard make a great frontline. O'Quinn adds great size and will be a great backup big. He is also good insurance if they lose Dwight. The only negative is that they needed some backcourt help...but that can be acquired in free agency or with a Dwight trade.

Philadelphia 76ers
Players: Maurice Harkless, Arnett Moultrie
Grade: B

Even though they gave up a future first rounder, I think they got some nice talent. Both of these guys have good upside. I am not truly sold on either though. Just as easily as they could be good, they could be bad and busts. They are positions of need though and they got two more young pieces to add to their youthful core.

Phoenix Suns
Players: Kendall Marshall
Grade: B

This pick proves Nash will be gone. And with Nash gone, they do need a floor general. Marshall is the best passer in the draft so that was the good. The bad is that he can't shoot like Nash. He will also struggle some defensively. Free agency and future drafts will be important to lay a foundation around him. After all, he needs talented scorers to pass it to.

Portland Trailblazers
Players: Damion Lillard, Meyers Leonard, Will Barton
Grade: A-

I think they got a lot of talent and totally filled some holes. They wanted a point guard and a big man more than anything. Lillard and Leonard both have great upside. They are a tad risky but it could pay off. Lillard is an athletic point just like Rose. Leonard emerged this year at Illinois. He has the size for a great 5 man. His skills still need to develop a touch though.

Will Barton is an extremely talented player that could become a solid starter in the NBA. He can score it and has good size for a 2 man. He also will be about to work in slowly as they already have Wesley Matthews. If I am in Portland, I walk away excited about the prospects of all 3 players.

Sacramento Kings
Players: Thomas Robinson
Grade: B+

I thought their pick at 5 was smart. Robinson could be a good 4 man and will fit nicely with Cousins inside. He is a little undersized for a 4 man, but his athleticism should help (and being next to Cousins helps this also). They debated trading the pick and that could have been a good idea. If they could have nabbed Lowry and 2 of Houston's picks that may have been great too. The trade they did make was with Indiana and it was for cash. I think they could have used that pick to get more talent, but now it just depends on what they do with that money. If it helps go towards a good free agent in the future then it was well worth it.

San Antonio Spurs
Players: Marcus Denmon
Grade: C

Very similar to Minnesota. They didn't have a pick until the end of the draft. They don't have as many holes, but they are old and could use more young talent. Denmon can shoot it but doesn't have a position. They made guys like Danny Green and Gary Neal work so maybe he will too.

Toronto Raptors
Players: Terrence Ross, Quincy Acy, Tomislav Zubcic
Grade: D

I don't really like any of the picks. Ross is a great shooter and that was desired. But at number 8 he was a reach. There were so many other great players there and Ross could have been gotten lower. Everyone knew Houston wanted into the top 10. They could have easily traded their pick to Houston and moved down to take Ross there. Acy was a decent college player but doesn't have a position in the NBA. He is a power forward type but is 6'6. He does add energy but Toronto needs more than that. Lastly, for a team like the Raptors they need help now. A stashed player won't do anything for them.

Utah Jazz
Players: Kevin Murphy
Grade: C

Didn't really love them getting rid of their 18th pick, although Budinger will give them shooting. Murphy could be a great sleeper in this draft. He is a great scorer and will fit in well at Utah. It's nothing to get overexcited about though.

Washington Wizards
Players: Bradley Beal, Tomas Satoransky
Grade: A-

As much as I hate their pick at 32, I equally love their pick at 3. They needed a 2 guard and a shooter. Beal could be a superstar at that position. He will love playing with John Wall. He fits in better with them than nearly every other team. At 32, they had the chance to add another impact player. I think they wasted their chance with it. But Beal makes up for it though!

So there you have the draft analysis. Free agency will be interesting this year and so important for many teams. Who will improve through signing guys... we will have to wait and see.

Nadal is Gone?

It has been an exciting week on the grass and yesterday was no exception. Most people thought, myself included, Nadal would be around for the final weekend of the event, possibly winning his third Wimbledon in the process. We were all wrong.

Lucas Rosol played the match of his career... of his life actually. Nobody outside the top 3 in the world has beaten Nadal in five sets. Since Nadal really exploded onto the scene, he has never lost this early in a slam. But these things didn't matter as Rosol had too much game.

In the fifth set, Rosol hit 20 winners to only 2 unforced errors. He hit 19 of 23 massive first serves in, and only lost 3 points the whole set on his serve. In the final game, he hit 3 aces to help close it out. He was "in the zone."

So who does this help the most? EVERYONE! In the short term, that could open doors for American, feel good story, Brian Baker. The quarterfinals is easily within reach now. Tsonga and Fish could also make that quarter to take on someone like Baker. For them, the semifinals is easily within reach.

In the semifinals, whoever comes out of that draw no longer has Nadal to beat in order to make the finals. Murray is the biggest name there, but it could also be Ferrer, Roddick, or Del Potro. That's a huge opportunity as somebody here now has a much easier road to the finals. Murray has his best chance at winning his first slam, and in the homeland he represents.

Then, for guys like Djokovic and Federer, they only have to beat one player in the big 3 now. Before, they would have played each other in the semis, but then Nadal in the final. Now, it's likely that the winner of the semifinal between Djokovic and Federer can more easily win it all.

My pick, Roger Federer, doesn't have to go through his career long rival anymore. I love his position now, despite having to go through Novak. If he wins the title, he returns to number 1 in the world. That's been one of his biggest goal throughout the year. That sets him in a good mindset with the Olympics around the corner (his other biggest goal).

Like I said, this really opens the door for all the contenders. It's one less stud player to go through in order to advance. But there may still be crazy things to come!

NBA Draft Dream Scenarios

Tonight is the night. Tune in to watch an exciting NBA Draft. This year should be great due to a unique amount of depth this year's class contains. The first round (and even early second) is littered with kids who possess lottery talent, and even top ten talent. Expect to see some big, draft night trades as well. Many teams are and will be looking to move up and down the board.

Last week I gave my NBA mock draft based on what I would do if I drafted. Since then, things have drastically changed. Trades have taken place, news has emerged about certain players (notably injury issues), and it's more evident what each team needs and desires.

Below are just some notes (and dreams) about what would be fun to see (and do if I were a GM). I'm just having fun here so don't put any stock in what you read below. I picked out teams that could be active and greatly improve their roster tonight:

Hornets

If I am the Hornets, I am looking to acquire pieces. Clearly, I draft Anthony Davis first.

The question is what to do with the tenth pick. I may look to trade up or down. The dream scenario would be in MKG falls to the five spot. If so, I would use the tenth pick, second round pick, and Rashard Lewis (whose salary you could dump) for the pick and unite MKG and Davis. Then, I could easily resign Eric Gordon, Carl Landry, Chris Kaman, Marcos Bellinelli, and have enough money to acquire other pieces (like a point guard).

But that won't happen. So the more likely option could be trading down. Houston has 3 picks in the next ten, so maybe they would give up two for this one. Then picking guys like Tyler Zeller and Kendall Marshall could happen. Look at the lineup you built for the future now:

PG Kendall Marshall
SG Eric Gordon
SF Rashard Lewis (Ultimate goal is to dump or trade him to unload big salary and get younger)
PF Anthony Davis
C  Tyler Zeller

Bobcats

The Bobcats need even more talent than the Hornets. And since they don't have the first pick, they will try and trade it. It's clear that Cleveland wants it. So if you are Charlotte, let it happen and get picks 4 and 24. Don't stop there either. Trade Augustin and Tyrus Thomas away to acquire another piece and clear cap room.

With the picks, I would pray MKG falls to you. With 24, possibly Sullinger slides due to back issues. Now you have two more studs, plus the money and pieces you acquired from above. You'd be in business and at minimum have this lineup:

PG Kemba Walker
SG Ben Gordon
SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
PF Jared Sullinger
C  Byron Mullens

The icing on the cake will be that future lottery pick that was acquired from Detroit. That could turn out to be somebody like Cody Zeller!

Cleveland

As you had read, I am a MKG fan. So I don't make the trade with Charlotte. I stay put because there would be a great chance MKG falls into my lap. Putting him with Kyrie Irving is great, and I still keep my 24, 33, and 34th picks in a deep draft. With those I draft Fab Melo (24), John Jenkins (33) and Doran Lamb (34). This gives me a lot more depth and upside for future. And by not resigning Jamison, I have enough money to pull in a free agent to boot. For now though, I at least got this lineup:

PG Kyrie Irving
SG Jenkins/Lamb
SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
PF Tristan Thompson
C  Anderson Varejao/Fab Melo

Portland

The beauty of having picks 6 and 11 is that it opens doors up a lot of doors. Plus, Portland has 7 unrestricted free agents and 2 restricted. The two restricted guys I keep (Batum and Hickson). Of the remaining players, I hold onto these: Felton and Thabeet. I cut lose everyone else to save money. With that money I go sign a guy like Jameer Nelson and Troy Murphy. Nelson would start and Troy gives depth.

I would also keep both of the picks. They have continually struck out with bigs so I wouldn't risk Drummond. The goal would be to get Harrison Barnes. He could play the 3 for you for a long time. With the 11th pick, I go with a big that is more of a sure thing: Tyler Zeller. Portland also has 2 second round picks where they could find 2 quality players too, possibly someone like Kim English. With the moves I stated, they now have talent and depth in your lineup:

PG Jameer Nelson/Ray Felton
SG Wesley Matthews/Kim English
SF Nik Batum/Harrison Barnes
PF LaMarcus Aldridge/Troy Murphy
C Tyler Zeller/Kurt Thomas

Golden State

This is yet another team with two first rounders. Once again, with the talent in this draft I keep both. Their pick at number 7 comes down to who slides there. There also may be a lot of team interested in this pick. Houston for example could give two picks in the teens to them for this pick. The issue I have with trading it away is that they really need somebody who can attack the rim. Curry and Thompson are both promising but they are shooters. Dion Waiters could be the answer.

At 30, there is still great value. Quincey Miller is a guy that would have been top 10 in the draft had he waited a year. I think the last pick of the first round should be used on a guy like that. At 35, they can still get an athletic big (to go with their skilled bigs they currently possess): Kyle O'Quinn. They now have a lot of depth to put a very good lineup together:

Guards/SF: Dion Waiters, Stephen Curry, Dorell Wright, Klay Thompson, Quincey Miller, Richard Jefferson

Bigs: David Lee, Andrew Bogut, Andres Biedrins, Kyle O'Quinn

Houston

I have loved the moves they have made to this point. But I don't like them going out and trying to get Dwight Howard. The Thunder gave a great blueprint as to how to build through the draft and grow into a championship caliber team. The difference is, they could do it this year!

Houston just acquired some young talent and have 2 first round picks from last year. All of them are fair game to trade along with Kyle Lowry. They could easily get into the first round. If they do, they would now have 4 picks in the top 18. In this draft, they could draft 4 potential all-stars.

If they do get a top ten pick via that trade I alluded to, they should target Andre Drummond. They wouldn't get a high enough pick to break into that sure thing pool, but his upside is Dwight Howard. That's who they are trying to get so why not take this guy, who is guaranteed to stay with you for more than a year, and who is much cheaper?

With the other picks, it depends on who is there. If Lillard slides to them at 12, pull the trigger. If not, getting a point guard at 18 in somebody like Kendall Marshall is key. The more realistic option is Marshall at 18. In that case, I try to get a scorer at 12. Jeremy Lamb or Terrence Ross are possibilities. At 16, I take a chance on a guy with massive upside: Terrence Jones or Perry Jones. Depending on who they gave away to acquire that top ten pick, their lineup is something like this, and could grow together just like OKC:

PG Kendall Marshall
SG Kevin Martin/Courtney Lee
SF Jeremy Lamb/Terrence Jones
PF Luis Scola/Patrick Patterson
C  Andre Drummond

Boston

It's time to rebuild...at least a little. After years with the Big 3 and being a great team in this league, they have to let go of some guys. It seems like Ray Allen is moving on... let him. Against the more athletic teams in the playoffs, he was a no show. I do resign KG, Bass, and Pietrus. These guys played well in the playoffs, will help guide the younger guys, and keep them competitive in the Eastern Conference.

Thankfully, they also have two picks just after 20. They need guys who can contribute right away, but also those than can grow into stars. I'm looking at 5 names: Royce White, Andrew Nicholson, John Jenkins, Will Barton, and Jared Sullinger. Because of losing Allen, I think I take Jenkins here. He plays very similar to Ray and is a change of pace to Bradley. If they like Barton better, take him then.

With the other pick I take a big. Again, it comes down to who they like more. Seeing as KG was such a hit, I take Nicholson. He is underrated, and could end up being a very similar player to Garnett. And if KG is resigned, he can learn from the man himself.

PG Rajon Rondo
SG Avery Bradley/John Jenkins
SF Paul Pierce/ Michael Pietrus
PF Brandon Bass/Andrew Nicholson
C  Kevin Garnett

There are many other teams that could be active. I heard yesterday that my Pacers are looking to move up, possibly even in the top ten. They would/could use Hansbrough and Collison as chips. Overall, the most excitement is also on who has the most assets. And this year, it's the teams that have multiple first round picks, and high picks at that. Even though most (if not all) of the above moves won't happen, it sure was fun to dream about. I will enjoy the draft either way!

Best NFL Fantasy Teams

Today I’ll take a broad look across the fantasy landscape. What NFL teams are loaded with fantasy potential? Below are the rankings of all 32 NFL teams in terms of their fantasy value.

Note: This study only analyzes offense and doesn’t include defense or kicker talk.

Note: You will notice a trend early that QB play is very important on these teams.

1. New England Patriots – This team is loaded with fantasy potential, mainly because of Tom Brady. Not only will Brady himself be one of the highest scoring players in fantasy, but the players he throws the ball to will produce as well. Gronk set a new standard for TE production last year, and Aaron Hernandez is a high-end TE also. Wes Welker produces in any fantasy league, but is a dynamo is PPR. New addition Brandon Lloyd should be a WR1 and could put up Moss like numbers from a few years back. This team also has some dynamic backs that are worthy of looks on your team.

2. New Orleans Saints – I don’t care about the coaching situation when it comes to fantasy; they will still be great with Drew Brees. He will once again put up massive stats, as will his receivers Marques Colston, Lance Moore, and Devery Henderson. TE Jimmy Graham is the only person who can challenge Gronk at the TE position too. Darren Sproles emerged as a great fantasy contributor, particularly in PPR leagues. Expect Mark Ingram to produce even more this year too.

3. Green Bay Packers – When Aaron Rodgers runs your offense, chances are that you will score a lot of points. Rodgers could receive the number one overall pick in many drafts. Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson are great picks for any team. James Jones is even a sleeper. Jermichael Finley is a redzone favorite and will produce well at the tight end spot. I would stay away from the running back position though.

4. Houston Texans – May seem a bit high for a team that isn’t known for offense. But this team has legitimate fantasy stars at multiple positions. Foster is not only the best RB in fantasy, but he is my top overall player this year. Plus, a healthy Andre Johnson may be the best WR in football. Matt Schaub is the guy who gets him the ball, and he is expected back healthy this year. He is great value in any draft this fall. And don’t sleep on Owen Daniels. Last year, they used two tight ends a lot, but with Joel Dressen now in Denver, he will get a lot of targets.

5. Philadelphia Eagles – This team may actually be the most talented fantasy lineup in the league. The problem though is health. If Michael Vick is healthy, he can easily score more fantasy points than any player in the game. But he hasn’t’ played a full season in… His health will also affect guys like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. Even a guy like Brent Celek would be a solid tight end with Vick healthy all year. One guy that won’t be totally affected is LeSean McCoy. This guy will be great again this year and is a top 3 pick in my opinion.

6. Dallas Cowboys – This team is oozing with fantasy talent. If you are ever in a pickle on draft day, go with a Cowboy. Tony Romo leads this team and is a top ten QB easy. His top receivers Miles Austin and Dez Bryant will both have big seasons. Romo’s security blanket is Jason Witten and he will produce once again. Demarco Murray came on big late last year, and all signs points toward a monster season for him if healthy. I’d risk it!

7. Denver – In Peyton Manning I trust. If there is one guy who has been a consistently dominant fantasy player, it’s Manning. Now that he’s healthy again, I expect nothing less from him. That means you should target guys like Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker. Jacob Tamme and even Joel Dressen are nice sleepers also for the TE spot. Willis McGahee should be solid like last year, and don’t forget Ronnie Hillman in PPR leagues.

8. Detroit Lions – In fantasy drafts around the country, Calvin Johnson will most likely be the top WR taken in drafts and possibly in the top 5 overall. Matt Stafford will also be a very high choice and he is worthy of it. TE Brandon Pettigrew should continue to be a great TE starter. Plus, whoever emerges as the second WR opposite Johnson, should be worthy of starts on your fantasy team. Keep your eye on the RB situation because somebody will emerge into greatness. I like Jahvid Best, especially for PPR leagues.

9. Chicago Bears – The Bears are a team that could be higher on this list or lower. There is uncertainty here both in injuries and contract situations. Jay Cutler and Matt Forte are both coming back from injuries that kept them out during the second half last year. Forte also has a contract holdout situation going on. I’d still draft both fairly high at their positions come fantasy drafting though. If Forte holds out, go with Michael Bush who they added during the offseason. Another new addition Brandon Marshall should be one of the top WR’s in football this year. And don’t sleep on Alshon Jeffery and Earl Bennett.

10. San Diego Chargers – Despite having an off year last season, Philip Rivers is still a great fantasy player. That makes many of his receivers threats also (Gates, Floyd, Meachem, Royal, Brown). The real gem on this team though this year is Ryan Mathews. After a couple of disappointing seasons, he is primed to break out. Many believe he is a top 5 RB and a definite first round draft pick.

11. New York Giants – The Super Bowl Champs have many players worthy of your attention. Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz are WR’s to target very early. Ahmad Bradshaw is a guy that produced for me most of last year. Keep an eye on David Wilson though whom they drafted in the first round. Eli Manning certainly became elite last year and is great value in drafts this season.

12. Atlanta Falcons – There isn’t a guy on this team that makes your eyes light up when it comes to fantasy. But there are a lot of guys who are good enough to start across the league. WR’s Roddy White and Julio Jones will be taken early in most drafts. Tony Gonzalez is old but is still a great option at TE. Michael Turner has produced consistently and has a nose for the endzone. Matt Ryan will become elite soon, so why not this year?

13. Carolina Panthers – Opposite than Atlanta, this team isn’t deep with talent but has top guys at a couple positions. Cam Newton may have led your fantasy team to greatness last year, even off the waiver wire. You can only get him early this year. Steve Smith has made a resurgence due to Newton, and was one of the best WR’s last year too. The RB’s produce, but it’s by committee, which hurts their individual value. But I love Greg Olsen this year as an amazing value pick for a tight end.

14. Pittsburgh Steelers – For a team known for its defense, the Steelers have a lot of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Ben Roethlisberger has become a very good throwing QB. Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown should both be coveted assets in 2012. Their best back is Rashard Mendenhall, but he is dealing with a lingering injury. Isaac Redman though may fill in nicely.

15. Baltimore Ravens – The fantasy production on this team is all about the little guy: Ray Rice. Rice will be a top 3 picks in most drafts this season, particularly if it’s a PPR league. The problem with this team is that Joe Flacco is inconsistent which makes their receivers boom or bust.

16. Tennessee Titans – I truly believe that Chris Johnson will return to greatness this year. There will not be a holdout to slow him down nor a true back there to threaten his touches. Kenny Britt is another player that could bounce back. The difference is he will be bouncing back from an injury, which may be harder.

17. Buffalo Bills – The success of this team depends on how much “Fitz-magic” they get from their starting QB. If Fitzpatrick can produce, WR Steve Johnson will be a monster in fantasy. Last year, the monster was Fred Jackson and he may be that again. CJ Spiller will also receive more touches so grab him late.

18. Cincinnati Bengals – Last year these guys made the jump to the playoffs. This year, certain players could lead your fantasy team to a championship. AJ Green is a guy to target early in all formats. He will be a breakout star. Speaking of breaking out, target Green’s buddy Jermaine Gresham who will up his production also. Their QB Andy Dalton is a fine late round pick too. This team will run a lot but through a committee. They have talent there so look to see who benefits the most.

19. Oakland Raiders – The addition of Carson Palmer last season took this dead offensive team into a dangerous squad. He has made a guy like Darius Heyward-Bay somebody to target in fantasy. The stud though is RB Darren McFadden. Bush is gone so he’ll see tons of touches. The key is how he will bounce back from injury.

20. San Francisco 49ers – This team has the skill position players to climb way up on this list. The problem is that I’m not sold on Alex Smith. If he throws it well, the whole team will benefit. Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis were there last year, but new guys Mario Manningham and Randy Moss may steal the show. Old standby Frank Gore should contribute well again, but there is depth at RB too.

21. Washington Redskins – This is a team that was only missing one piece last year. They drafted RGIII to fill that void so this team could be a sleeping giant. He, along with his targets Pierre Garcon, Santana Moss, and Fred Davis, are guys that will have great value in drafts this season. You know Shanahan kills fantasy teams with his screwy RB changes, but look for a good year from Roy Helu.

22. Arizona Cardinals – It will be interesting to see who emerges as the starting QB this season but Kevin Kolb has all the talent in the world. Larry Fitzgerald will produce no matter who is there though. Rookie Michael Floyd could also be huge but that depends again on the QB situation. Every year people get hyped about the RB potential here, I guess for me it's wait and see.

23. Seattle Seahawks - If Marshawn Lynch is in “Beast Mode” all year, he is worthy of a very high draft pick. The passing game remains a mystery... If new QB Matt Flynn lives up to his hype, he could be a real steal late. Sidney Rice is another guy that will benefit from better QB play.

24. Kansas City Chiefs - Just like the Bears last year, the Chiefs were hit hard by injuries last season. We hope Jamaal Charles can get back to his dominant self. And if Matt Cassel is back okay, you can expect big numbers from Dwayne Bowe too.

25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – This team really failed to live up to expectations in 2011. That could help them in 2012 though. Josh Freeman has tons of talent, it’s just a matter of cashing in on it. Additions Vincent Jackson and Dallas Clark could help him and produce themselves. Mike Williams may benefit from their arrival also. Blount vs. Martin is a RB battle that will determine who you want on your team.

26. New York Jets – This has to be the best normal team without fantasy stars. In fact, the best fantasy player on the roster is their backup QB: Tim Tebow. Unless Mark Sanchez throws consistently (which will lead to good production) or gets injured (which means Tim Tebow is a guy to target), tread lightly with any player here outside of probably Santonio Holmes and maybe Dustin Keller. And if Shonn Greene ever stepped into his skillset, then he’d be a solid fantasy player also.

27. Jacksonville Jaguars – This team has nobody on their roster worthy of grabbing except for Maurice Jones-Drew. This little guy can carry your fantasy team to wins, unlike his real team.

28. Minnesota Vikings – How the mighty have fallen. To think this was a great team just a couple years ago. Adrian Peterson is still a star but will he be fully healthy? Percy Harvin could be a great contributor but will he be traded?

29. Cleveland Browns – I could say the same thing here I said for Jacksonville. This guy’s name though is Trent Richardson. He is a rookie so I don’t trust him as much as Jones-Drew. But I like him a lot for fantasy still.

30. Indianapolis Colts – They were the worst NFL team for a reason. I will say though that they have potential now with Andrew Luck. If he breaks out like Cam Newton did last year then look out for Reggie Wayne and Coby Fleener. I just don’t see it in his rookie year though.

31. St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford had a great rookie season but regressed last year. That makes him and his WR’s shaky. Steven Jackson is always worth a spot on your fantasy team but will his age ever stop him?

32. Miami Dolphins – The passing game is a wasteland except for Davone Bess (unless Ryan Tannehill shocks me). The good news is that Reggie Bush finally asserted himself last year and could do it again.

There you have it. Stay tuned for more fantasy blogs, including player rankings, as we inch towards the season. Make sure to get signed up, start researching, and do some mock drafts for practice.

Andrew's Wimbledon Preview

As we've commented on this site before, we're in the midst of true Championship Season. We've seen champions crowned recently in tennis, basketball, golf, racing, and hockey. College Baseball is to that point as well. And now we get to enjoy watching another win a trophy at the best slam in tennis: Wimbledon.

After letting me down at the French Open, I'm picking the Bryan Brothers to win in doubles. As for the women, I think after winning in Paris, Sharapova will get the job done here also. She is playing great tennis and this was the site of her first slam ever.

As for the men, I'll take a bit more time breaking it down. Here is the draw: http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/scores/draws/ms/index.html

Below is my breakdown of Men's Singles. For Greg's picks, view the comment section.

Novak's Quarter

Novak will begin the defense of his title against a former slam champ in Ferrero. Don't expect this to be too tough a test though.

Another thing that stands out to me is how unfortunate Ryan Harrison is. Harrison is a feisty young American who hasn't yet broken through very far in a slam. Maybe it's because of draws like this. He'll take on Novak in the second round if he wins his first.

Vet James Blake has a tough but doable draw for a couple rounds. I think he would be pleased by a third round showing, before losing also to Djokovic.

When looking at the bottom portion of this quarter I see some big guns. Gasquet is ultra talented and has played well here before. Almagro is coming off a good showing a the French Open as is always fun to watch. Berdych is the most dangerous and the favorite to face the Joker in the quarterfinals.

But no matter who it is, I feel like Novak waltzes into the semifinals again. I think this is overall the weakest section.

Federer's Quarter

Federer is looking to not only rack up another slam at his favorite venue, but if he wins and Nadal loses in the semifinals or before, he would become number one in the world again. That would lead to even more history and records for the best player of all time!

Fed's draw is fairly tame until the third round. If he plays Gilles Muller there (who can serve monstrously), he could have a testy match. Although he would still win so it's probably not even worth mentioning. In all honesty, his first real test would come a round later with Verdasco. He's a Spaniard and a lefty, the same as Roger's nemesis (Nadal). Although he could also play Simon there.

In the bottom section here, my eyes are drawn to one potential matchup: Second Round - Isner vs. Mahut part 2. If that happens, they may even put that match on Centre Court. We all remember what happened when they played a few years ago: history! My best guess is that they don't play near as long this time around, but I think Isner would win again. In fact, I think Isner will come out of that section to face Federer in the quarters. Although I would love the American to advance past this point, it won't happen. Team Fed rolls on.

Murray's Quarter

Murray is still searching for his first slam. He would specifically love to win here, and become the first Brit to win in ages. You know he will have the fan support but can he pull it off? Overall, I think this section is pretty deep and will be tough.

Ferrer is also in this section. His first big test will come in the third round where he could take on Andy Roddick. "A-Rod," if you will, hasn't played well of late, but his career and success here at Wimbledon should make any opponent worry. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an upset here. I trust the big serve on grass!

Whoever makes it through that one will take on Del Potro. What a fourth round matchup that could be! That's why this section is tough for whoever makes it through.

Murray could face the survivor of the above players, but only if he survives his section first. He immediately plays Davydenko. He was a former top 5 player. Then he would probably take on Dr. Ivo. Ivo has always played well here on the grass with his serve. Murray's third round could be a number of guys, all who are dangerous. Baghdatis is a talented guy who has made it deep in slams. Anderson has as large as serve as Karlovic. And if Murray gets by there, he would play either Cilic or Raonic. Both of these guys has as much talent as anyone in the world. Again, that's only to get to a match with Ferrer, Roddick, or Del Potro.

My prediction here is that Murray doesn't make it through all of that. He doesn't really get an easy match and he'll have tons of pressure on him. I'll predict Del Potro coming through.

Nadal's Quarter

Nadal badly desires to win his third Wimbledon title. His section is also pretty tough, but most of his foes will battle it out at the top of the section.

That aforementioned section includes Tsonga, Tomic, Fish, and Wawrinka. It will be a treat to watch that play out. I could actually see any of the four making it through to the quarterfinals. I have a weird/good feeling about Tomic, but I wouldn't bet against Tsonga.

There are some great players down with Nadal on the draw, but none match up well with him. Therefore, Nadal will cruise to the quarters. Simple as that

I think he will be tested there by one of the above four. But I don't see any of them beating him in a best of five match. So on Nadal will go to the semifinals.

Semis and Finals

Here is where the real work starts for predictions. As much as I would like to see Nadal lose here, it won't happen. Even if it is Murray (and not Del Potro like I predicted), Nadal will win. Despite being the two seed, he has the much easier semifinal match than the one seed. In fact, I see Nadal winning in straight sets.

That one seed, Djokovic, will take on the best player of all time: Roger Federer. Although Novak got him in Paris, I see Federer winning this match. Federer will win in four sets.

That sets up a rematch I have been wanting to see here. We all remember some of the matches they have had in the finals here. We haven't heard much about this rivalry on the court recently, but I am aching to watch it. Nadal has really outplayed Fed in their match-ups previous. But you know what? I'll take Roger here over his arch rival Rafa. I'll even predict a classic five set match. It's going to be good!

I hope you enjoy watching as much as I do. I can't wait for it to start. I just wish we could fast forward to the second week when things really heat up. Go USA!
