NFL Draft Rankings: CB, S, RB

Tomorrow is the NFL Draft (scream in excitement… now calm down and continue). That also means we will be posting our final mock drafts tomorrow (scream in excitement again… now calm down and continue once more). There are three positions however that we have yet to rank: Cornerbacks, Safeties, and Running Backs. Here’s a look at all three:

Cornerback Draft Rankings

Greg:

  1. Marcus Peters
  2. Kevin Johnson
  3. D’Joun Smith
  4. Byron Jones
  5. Trae Waynes
  6. Senquez Golson
  7. Steven Nelson
  8. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
  9. Jalen Collins
  10. P.J. Williams

Andrew:

  1. Marcus Peters
  2. Trae Waynes
  3. Ronald Darby
  4. Kevin Johnson
  5. Byron Jones
  6. Jalen Collins
  7. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
  8. Alex Carter
  9. Senquez Golson
  10. D’Joun Smith

Let’s start with where we agree: Marcus Peters. If you look at on-the-field performance, Peters can do it all. We also agree on Johnson, Waynes, and Jones being Top 5 prospects at the position (although in a different order). Looking at the third ranked players, Greg loves D.J. Smith (only 10th on Andrew’s list) and Andrew loves Ronald Darby (not on Greg’s list). Steven Nelson made Greg’s rankings and Alex Carter made Andrew’s; they didn’t appear on the other’s rankings however. One surprise is that Ifo Ekpre-Olomu made each Top 10, despite the injury talk surrounding him.

Safety Draft Rankings

Greg:

  1. Landon Collins
  2. James Sample
  3. Eric Rowe
  4. Shaq Thompson
  5. Damarious Randle
  6. Anthony Harris
  7. Derron Smith
  8. Gerod Holliman
  9. Clayton Geathers
  10. Jordan Richards

Andrew:

  1. Landon Collins
  2. Damarious Randall
  3. Quinten Rollins
  4. P.J. Williams
  5. Gerod Holliman
  6. Jaquiski Tartt
  7. Eric Rowe
  8. James Sample
  9. Anthony Harris
  10. Doran Grant

After Landon Collins, the obvious top safety this year, things vary greatly on these lists. Greg lists Shaq Thompson on his list, but Andrew evaluated him as a linebacker earlier. Andrew had P.J. Williams and Quinten Rollins in his rankings, when most consider them CB prospects (Greg had Williams ranked on his CB list above). That’s what makes safety so interesting. Greg was higher on Sample and Rowe, Andrew was higher on Randall and Holliman. Sleepers included Derron Smith for Greg and Jaquiski Tartt for Andrew.

Running Back Draft Rankings

Greg:

  1. Melvin Gordon
  2. Todd Gurley
  3. Tevin Coleman
  4. Duke Johnson
  5. David Johnson
  6. Jeremy Langford
  7. Ameer Abdullah
  8. T.J. Yeldon
  9. David Cobb
  10. Cameron Artis-Payne

Andrew:

  1. Todd Gurley
  2. Melvin Gordon Jr.
  3. Tevin Coleman
  4. Ameer Abdullah
  5. Jay Ajayi
  6. Duke Johnson
  7. T.J. Yeldon
  8. David Johnson
  9. Jeremy Langford
  10. John Crockett

We both love Gurley, Gordon, and Coleman this year, as they top both our lists. After that we have a lot of similar names but in a different order. Our real disagreements came at the end, as Greg included Cobb and Artis-Payne. Andrew’s two different selections were Ajayi (#5) and Crockett. Either way, depth at running back is great this year.

Stay tuned for our final mock drafts tomorrow...
