NFL Power Rankings

Normally this post is on Tuesdays, but with Andrew's birthday earlier this week, it comes a day late:

Week 14 was a great week for football, despite the disappointing Monday Night game. It also set us up for an exciting finish. Not only are fantasy playoffs currently going on, the NFL playoffs are right around the corner. It's the Holiday season, snow will be falling soon, so enjoy life!

NFL Power Rankings
Through Week 14

Andrew – 1163 Points (134-73-1) – Winner of Week 14
Greg – 1102 Points (126-81-1)

NOTE: Last week’s rank is noted in the first parenthesis. Current team record noted in the second parenthesis.

1. (3) New England Patriots (10-3) – Throughout the decade seeing them atop this list was commonplace, but it’s their debut on top this year. They will likely win out and remain the top team heading into the playoffs. – Andrew

2. (4) Denver Broncos (10-3) – Also playing really well, but I'm not putting them ahead of New England because A) New England beat them earlier in the season and B) I think New England is a better overall team. – Greg

3. (5) Green Bay Packers (9-4) – It took them a while to get going in the snow, but Green Bay pulled out a nice win against Detroit on Sunday Night. What will be truly telling of this team though is if they can go into Soldier Field and take out the struggling Bears this weekend. – Andrew

4. (6) Indianapolis Colts (9-4) – Shocker of the year here. If at the beginning of the year I had told you that after 14 weeks Indy would have the same record as Baltimore and Green Bay, AND have beaten Green Bay, you'd have laughed me out of your mind. It is amazing to me that they have this record. I keep saying that and every week they amaze me even more. – Greg

5. (1) Houston Texans (11-2) – They still have the AFC’s best record but no longer have the respect of being the best. They better figure out what happened on Monday night before a possible rematch in the playoffs. – Andrew

6. (2) Atlanta Falcons (11-2) – Just as I started believing in this team again as an elite team, they go and lose to the Panthers. They probably thought the playoffs had started seeing as they can’t win then. – Andrew

7. (11) – San Francisco 49ers (9-3-1) – The 49ers defense is back to playing some great football. They will need to carry them throughout the playoffs if they want a chance to play in February. – Andrew

8. (8) New York Giants (8-5) – Eli finally broke out of his little slump and that makes the Giants possible favorites in the NFC as the playoffs loom. – Andrew

9. (10) Seattle Seahawks (8-5) – This is a team that no one is going to want to play in a few weeks when the playoffs start. Laid the shellacking of the year on the Division II Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. – Greg

10. (13) Washington Redskins (7-6) – How this team does going forward will hinge on RGIII's health, but they have won 4 straight games and they are peaking at the right time of the year.  They also have a fairly easy schedule over the last 3 games of the season. – Greg

11. (7) Baltimore Ravens (9-4) – Despite a loss the Ravens didn’t give up ground in the division (both competitors lost too). They did however slide to the fourth best record. But if they playoffs started today, that spot could be a blessing in disguise as their road would be much easier than others. – Andrew

12. (16) Dallas Cowboys (7-6) – The Cowboys are showing me something I didn’t know they had… toughness! They refused to lose on Sunday and just like Washington, have a decent chance for the playoffs. They need to win out though. – Andrew

13. (9) Cincinnati Bengals (7-6) – Lost a heartbreaker to the Cowboys which means they must finish strong to sneak into the playoffs. Games include rivals Baltimore and Pittsburgh so they better play well! – Andrew

14. (18) Minnesota Vikings (7-6) – AD is my choice for not only comeback player of the year, but also MVP. Whether you are judging by stats (best RB stats out there) or by impact/value to his team (they would be nearly 0-13 without him), he is the MVP in my book by a landslide. – Andrew

15. (12) Chicago Bears (8-5) – The collapse is on. It may have started with some injuries just like last year, but frankly the team just isn’t playing well. This week’s home game against Green Bay is a must win statement game in my opinion. – Andrew

16. (17) St. Louis (6-6-1) – Even though the Rams are not an exciting team, they have grit, heart, and determination. That equals wins and an outside shot at the playoffs still.

17. (14) Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6) – Wasn’t getting Ben back supposed to ignite winning? I guess not when your secondary plays like crap. – Andrew

18. (15) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7) – They lost a game they had to win. That was likely the nail in the coffin and a loss that sealed their non-playoff fate. – Andrew

19. (24) San Diego Chargers (5-8) – They announce that coaches are fired and changes are coming and look what happens: they win! – Andrew

20. (25) New York Jets (6-7) – Has there ever been a worse 6-7 in the history of football than these guys. I am legitimately bored watching them play and dread when they come on the Redzone channel. – Andrew

21. (23) Cleveland Browns (5-8) –If you are a Browns fan you should be looking forward to next season. If I am doing match correctly, they are 5-3 over their last 8 games. Duplicate that next season and you are 10-6 and in the playoffs. – Andrew

22. (19) New Orleans Saints (5-8) – Bad news first: they lost again and any chance of the playoffs is officially done. Good news: bounty suspensions were wrongfully overturned! – Andrew

23. (20) Buffalo Bills (5-8) – Last week I predicted a possible winning streak and 9-7 finish. They couldn’t even get past the first hurdle. – Andrew

24. (21) Detroit Lions (4-9) – Read what I said about the Jets, then think the opposite. – Andrew

25. (27) Philadelphia Eagles (4-9) – Maybe I was too quick to judge Foles… he looked calm and collected over the final minutes in a great comeback win on Sunday. – Andrew

26. (22) Miami Dolphins (5-8) – Back to the drawing board for Miami, or at least turn your full attention now to the Heat in basketball. – Andrew

27. (30) Carolina Panthers (4-9) – Cam looked like the Cam from last year finally. But like I said a year ago, playing that good doesn’t mean anything when all you do is rack up great stats and a losing season. – Andrew

28. (26) Tennessee Titans (4-9) – Nearly dealt a nasty blow to the surging Colts. But happy they didn’t! – Andrew

29. (29) Oakland Raiders (3-10) – Showed some spirit against the Broncos, kudos for that at least. – Andrew

30. (31) Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) – Move up due to the Cardinals epic loss. – Andrew

31. (32) Kansas City Chiefs (2-11) – Diddo from above.

32. (28) Arizona Cardinals (4-9) – Truly earned this last spot in the rankings by getting shut out and allowing 58 points in the same game. – Andrew
