Farmer's Insurance - Pick 5

Farmers Insurance Open

Last week we saw the golf season begin with the focus mainly on Tiger and Rory on the European Tour. They both missed the cut. Phil also made the news, but for non-golf reasons. He complained about Obama's stupid taxes basically. This week though the first big PGA event starts and the year truly begins. Let's play some golf!

Like normal, Greg and I will be doing "Pick 5" again this season, and this week we start at the Farmers Insurance Open. Sorry we are posting on Thursday, because that basically eliminates the chance of anyone playing along with us. But I guess it will simply be a blogger's battle. We didn't set any special categories this time, we just picked five guys we believe will do well. Here are our picks:

Greg's Picks

Brandt Snedeker
Rickie Fowler
Dustin Johnson
Keegan Bradley
Nicolas Colsaerts

Andrew's Picks

Tiger Woods
Phil Mickelson
Brandt Snedeker
Bo Van Pelt
KJ Choi

As you can see, we had one pick the same (Snedeker) but the rest were all different. Next tournament we'll try to include our readers, plus give more specific categories. Enjoy the event!

  1. This year we are taking a slightly different approach to the Pick 5 this year. We are giving out points in two different ways: for overall placing among participants in pick 5, and overall money totals.

    Placings will go as follows:

    1st overall(Among participants)-20 points
    2nd-18
    3rd-16
    4th-14
    5th-12
    6th-10
    7th-8
    8th-6
    9th-4
    10th-2

If two participants pick the same player, they will split the points, but if two different picks are in the same place overall, each participant in pick 5 gets the full point total for that place.

Since we usually had 4 participants in the Pick 5 last year the money total point values are as follows:

    1st place:20 points
    2nd place:15 points
    3rd place:10 points
    4th place:5 points

    Happy Picking!

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask, but this should be fairly self-explanatory.

  2. Just to clarify- the placings are for the placings of the picks, not of the participants. So the top 10 players picked that place will receive point values.

  4. I like the system you came up with partner. It takes everything into account and we can track this throughout the year. It will also be fun as we integrate viewers in on this too. This means that you are officially in charge of tracking this throughout the year. Later!
