NFL Power Rankings - Week 1
Andrew: 102 Points –
10 – 6 Greg: 101 Points – 10 – 6
1. Baltimore Ravens (1-0) – The most impressive thing about
the Ravens last night was not their defense, but their offense. If they
continue to open it up like that, they will be tough to beat this year. Maybe
Flacco is elite… - Andrew
2. Denver Broncos (1-0): Denver's defense overcame an 11 minute
disparity in TOP and still held Pittsburgh to 19 points, and dropped 4
INT's. Peyton looked like vintage Peyton. – Greg
3. Chicago Bears (1-0) – The NFC is very deep, but
Chicago looked the best on Sunday. The defense is still loaded despite their
age. The offense is electric with Marshall and Jeffery now in town. – Andrew
4. New England Patriots (1-0) – Started the season impressively, but Brady got
hit more often than they'd like. Still, a win on the road as impressively as
this was can't be nitpicked too much. - Greg
5. San Francisco 49ers (1-0) – They showed exactly why their
defense is so highly rated by shutting down Rodgers and company. And on offense
there was a Randy Moss sighting! – Andrew
6. Atlanta Falcons (1-0) – Julio Jones is now the #1 receiver on this
team and Matt Ryan led all fantasy performers in points this week. Great
start on the road against a much-improved KC team. - Greg
7. Houston Texans (1-0) – They are healthy once again.
Schaub, Foster, and Johnson were all in shape and dominant. The defense also picked
up where they left off from last year. – Andrew
8. Dallas Cowboys (1-0) – Tony Romo played perhaps the best game of his
career and the Cowboys looked impressive on opening night against the Giants. -
Greg
9. Washington Redskins (1-0) – RGIII had the second best rated debut of any
rookie QB since 1960, and the 'Skins won on the road at New Orleans, in the
Superdome. Hard to ask for a better start to a season. - Greg
10. New York Jets (1-0) – Remember that these rankings only
reflect what we saw in their one game. And in that game we saw a surprisingly
good offense and an always-solid defense. – Andrew
11. Green Bay Packers (0-1) – Have a chance to start the season 0-2 with a
game at home against the Bears on Thursday night. Cedric Benson needs to get
going if he's going to reach his 1,100-yard goal this season. His tally
so far: 18. - Greg
12. Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1) – Outside of Ben’s late pick,
Pittsburgh played a game Sunday worthy of winning. They missed a few key guys,
but this team showed great potential despite the loss. – Andrew
13. San Diego Chargers (1-0) – Although Philip Rivers couldn’t
punch it in the endzone much, the Chargers beat a solid football team on the
road. The need a healthy Ryan Mathews though. – Andrew
14. Detroit Lions (1-0) – Needed a TD pass with thirty seconds left to
beat the Rams at home. They'll have to play better this week, otherwise
Jim Schwartz will probably get a rough pat on the back during the postgame
handshake again. #JimHarbaughsstrongrighthand – Greg
15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0): Held Carolina to 10 rushing
yards (.8 yards per rush) in their opening win. Weather conditions
may have helped, but this team is vastly improved under new head coach Greg
Schiano. - Greg
16. Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) – Similar to Detroit, the
Eagles survived an ugly performance. Michael Vick obviously needs to avoid
turnovers in order for this team to be successful. – Andrew
17. Arizona Cardinals (1-0) – For winning a big divisional
matchup, they may walk away with more question marks. Who will start at QB now
if Skelton is healthy? – Andrew
18. New York Giants (0-1) – They might want to learn to run the ball a
little more, especially if Victor Cruz is going to keep dropping the ball all
the time. - Greg
19. New Orleans Saints (0-1) – The defense is obviously
where this team needs to see improvement. But Drew Brees wasn’t as accurate as
he normally is. Both played a factor in a week one loss at home. – Andrew
20. Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) - They ran into the Atlanta Falcons
‘Buzzsaw’ on Sunday, but still played fairly well. I expect this to be a pretty
good team if injuries don't strike. – Greg
21. Minnesota Vikings (1-0) - Enjoy the win Vikings fans, and
though AD is back and looks healthy, they won't win much this season. – Greg
22. Oakland Raiders (0-1) – This team showed how good
they could be. But the dumb plays plagued them, just like last year. Eliminate
the stupid penalties, turnovers, and bad snaps, and they will win plenty this
season. – Andrew
23. St. Louis Rams (0-1) - Played an NFL playoff team extremely
close on Sunday. Jeff Fisher has already made a big difference in this team. -
Greg
24. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) – Blaine Gabbert looked like
a good NFL QB Sunday. But the way the team choked at the end will be a tough
pill to swallow. – Andrew
25. Seattle Seahawks (0-1) – Their defense played well and Russell Wilson
didn't lose the game for them, but he didn't win the game either. I know
they believe in him, but it’s hard to believe he's actually better right now
than Matt Flynn. – Greg
26. Tennessee Titans (0-1) – My concern here is where was
Chris Johnson? He wasn’t involved and didn’t look like himself at all. – Andrew
27. Indianapolis Colts (0-1) - Got hit with injuries pretty hard, and the
offense took awhile to get going, but Andrew Luck did almost exactly what
Peyton Manning did in his first NFL start. - Greg
28. Buffalo Bills (0-1) – So much for their much-improved
and high-priced defense. Even worse was the Fred Jackson got injured once
again. – Andrew
29. Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) – The Bengals would love to
forget the second half last night. But it will be how they bounce back from it
that will determine who good of season they will have. – Andrew
30. Carolina Panthers (0-1) – Same story, different chapter: Cam throws for
300+ and the Panthers lose. - Greg
31. Cleveland Browns (0-1) – They were gifted turnovers time
and time again and still found a way to lose. Weeden and the offense looked
horrendous. They have a long way to go. – Andrew
32. Miami Dolphins (0-1) – Hard Knocks made Ryan Tannehill look much
better than he did against Houston. This will be a long season for the
Dolphins. - Greg
