NFL Power Rankings
After Week 7
NOTE: Previous ranking is noted in the first parenthesis,
record in second parenthesis.
1. (1) Denver Broncos (5-1) – Manning quickly broke Brett
Favre’s TD record on Sunday night. The Broncos looked unbeatable in the process
too.
2. (2) Dallas Cowboys (6-1) – Murray went over 100 again,
and they unleashed Romo a bit in this one as well. The Cowboys are currently the
cream of the NFC.
3. (4) Indianapolis Colts (5-2) – They were already leading
the league in yards per game, but they increased that total against Cincinnati.
If that wasn’t enough, they shut out the Bengals offense. Yeah, this team is
legit.
4. (6) Green Bay Packers (5-2) – Here comes Green Bay with
Aaron Rodgers leading the way. They’ve looked better and better each week of
the season. The offense is finally clicking and the defense is good enough.
Rodgers is the MVP right now.
5. (8) Philadelphia Eagles (5-1) – During a bye week they
saw many top teams fall. That means they creep up the list and into the top 5!
6. (9) Arizona Cardinals (5-1) – With Palmer back and
playing well, this is clearly the team to beat in the tough NFC West. That’s
right, NOT SF and NOT SEA.
7. (10) New England Patriots (5-2) – It wasn’t always pretty,
but New England won and Tom Brady looked good again. They struggled containing
Geno Smith though, which is concerning.
8. (13) Baltimore Ravens (5-2) – This defense is tough, and
likely a top five unit in the league. Joe Flacco and company are simply rolling
right now too. I think they’ll run away with the division.
9. (14) Detroit Lions (5-2) – Despite not having Calvin
again, the Lions overcame the Saints with two late Stafford TD’s. Obviously,
their defense deserves a ton of credit (or all) too for their five wins.
10. (3) San Diego Chargers (5-2) – I mentioned last week
that I needed to see them against a legit team before I truly crowned them
elite. They failed, and it was even at home.
11. (7) San Francisco 49ers (4-3) – Didn’t put up much of a
fight on the road against the mighty Broncos, but who does? This team is built
for the second half of the season though, so don’t fret 49er fans.
12. (18) Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) – Very impressive win at
San Diego, especially for a team with gaping holes on offense outside of
Charles. They are starting to play similarly to how they did a year ago.
13. (5) Seattle Seahawks (3-3) – This is not the same team
as last year. Their defense is more vulnerable, and they just traded away
Wilson’s best weapon (Harvin). In fact, they were already limited in terms of
pass catchers due to Tate’s offseason departure. I think they are in real
danger of missing the playoffs now.
14. (11) Cincinnati Bengals (3-2-1) – Ugly loss to Indy,
which exposed a shaky offense and defense. BUT, it was without AJ Green, who
totally changes the team (at least on one side of the ball). Plus nobody is
beating the Colts right now.
15. (20) Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) – Thanks to a two-minute
stretch late in the first half, this team moved back above .500. Of course,
they haven’t shown any consistency so far this season, so who knows how long
that will last.
16. (21) Buffalo Bills (4-3) – Still don’t know if switching
to Kyle Orton helps the team long-term, but it led to a comeback win on Sunday.
It definitely helps Sammy Watkins too, who broke out with 100+ yards and 2
TD’s, including the game-winner.
17. (24) Miami Dolphins (3-3) – For a QB that nearly lost
his starting job a few weeks ago, Tannehill looked awfully good once again this
week. He shredded the Bears en route to a great road win.
18 (11) Carolina Panthers (3-3-1) – Bad news is that this
team looked mediocre again. The good news is that losing at Green Bay was
expected, and nobody else in the division won.
19. (15) Chicago Bears (3-4) – Another home loss makes them
0-3 at Soldier Field this season. Missing the playoffs seems certain now, and
that home record will be the reason why.
20. (16) Cleveland Browns (3-3) – Just when people started
believing in Cleveland, they laid an egg against Jacksonville. Ouch!
21. (17) New York Giants (3-4) – Their defense had a tough
time with the Cowboys, but that’s understandable seeing as nobody can contain
them right now. The streakiness continues for this up and down squad.
22. (19) New Orleans Saints (2-4) – Totally controlled the
game at Detroit on Sunday, but found a way to lose it at the end. Brees threw a
costly interception, and the defense allowed two late TD’s.
23. (29) St. Louis Rams (2-4) – You could see a big win
coming for a while. They were in position to win last week against the 49ers
before losing. In a similar spot this week against Seattle, they were able to
hang on thanks to a gutsy fake punt.
24. (27) Washington Redskins (2-5) – Bye bye Cousins. Hello
McCoy. Regardless of which backup plays, RG3 may be close to returning and will
regain his starting gig.
25. (22) Atlanta Falcons (2-5) – So much for a bounce back
season. I’m predicting some major changes this offseason in the coaching staff.
26. (23) Houston Texans (3-4) – What happened at the end of
the half? And boy do these boys need a better QB.
27. (25) Minnesota Vikings (2-5) – The Vikings were in a
great position to win on Sunday but allowed a last second (literally) TD to
lose. This is a great game to learn from for a young team.
28. (26) Tennessee Titans (2-5) – The Titans nearly won
their road game against Washington, but just couldn’t make the plays when they
needed to late.
29. (28) New York Jets (1-6) – Despite losing, the Jets had
a good week. If they hadn’t had their FG blocked, they would have taken out NE
on the road. Later in the week, they traded for Percy Harvin. There isn’t hope
for this year, but there is moving forward.
30. (31) Jacksonville Jaguars (1-6) – Blake Bortles got his
first win of his career, and the Jaguars their first win of the season. It
wasn’t pretty, but they got the job done against the Browns.
31. (30) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-5) – Any big changes after
the bye? We’ll see…
32. (32) Oakland Raiders (0-6) – Carr didn’t play as well as
last week, but that’s what you’ll find with a rookie QB. Now the only winless
team in the league, they are on pace for the top pick in the draft.
