NFL Power Rankings
After Week 10
NOTE: Previous ranking is noted in the first parenthesis.
Current team record noted in the second parenthesis.
1. (1) Denver Broncos (8-1) – The Thomas’s were dynamic and
the Broncos once again were terrific through the air. Peyton did tweak his
ankle in the game, but yesterday they found it was minor.
2. (2) Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) – People may not understand
why the only undefeated team isn’t first in the rankings. They have their shot
this week when they take on my #1, the Broncos.
3. (3) Seattle Seahawks (9-1) – Wilson got back on track in
this game and Lynch was a beast like normal. Seattle is closing in on the #1
seed already in the NFC.
4. (7) New Orleans Saints (7-2) – Colston finally showed up
and the Brees led offense erupted in a major way against Dallas. The defense
was also solid holding Romo to just 128 yards.
5. (5) New England Patriots (7-2) – They hit the bye playing
great football, and they’ll emerge from the bye playing at Carolina in a great
matchup.
6. (10) Detroit Lions (6-3) – Unfortunately for me (cause
I’m a Bears fan), the Lions put themselves in a great spot in the NFC North.
They own a one game lead, are 3-1 in the division, which includes a sweep over
the Bears, and the other two teams are both starting backup QB’s currently.
7. (12) Carolina Panthers (6-3) – It’s time to start taking
Carolina seriously. They’ve won five straight and their defense is making a
case for the best unit in the league. Winning at San Francisco is no easy task,
but they got it done Sunday.
8. (4) San Francisco 49ers (6-3) – The 49ers simply got beat
at their own game on Sunday (defense). My concern with this squad is can they
display better offense against tough teams, cause it doesn’t look like they can
(Seahawks, Panthers, etc.).
9. (6) Indianapolis Colts (6-3) – Um… What just happened?
The Colts have better wins than basically any team in the league. But including
the loss Sunday to St. Louis, they have a few of the most confusing losses.
10. (8) Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) – A miracle got them into
OT on Sunday, but a poor fourth down play cost them in the end. Like I’ve said
all year though, they are still sitting pretty in the AFC North.
11. (11) Dallas Cowboys (5-5) – The Cowboys continue to get
dominated on defense by good teams, and now they may have lost Sean Lee for a
while. The good news for them is that after a tough schedule thus far, it gets
a little easier from here.
12. (18) Philadelphia Eagles (5-5) – For all the QB
controversy and bad defense, Philly is .500 and tied for the lead in the
division. That’s incredible. And while Dallas (co-leader) is 1-4 on the road,
Philly is 5-1. That’s even more incredible.
13. (13) Chicago Bears (5-4) – I mark up their loss to
Detroit as bad coaching. It was a bad fourth down call early in the game that
cost them points (that ultimately would have won it). Bad coaching kept Jay
Cutler in the game too long. Bad coaching (defensive play-call) cost the Bears
on Detroit’s final TD. Bad coaching (offensive play-call) cost the Bears on
both 2-point conversion attempts.
14. (9) Green Bay Packers (5-4) – With Aaron Rodgers, they
are a much better team than this ranking implies. But with backup QB’s, they
are now 0-2. And they still have to survive a couple more weeks…
15. (15) New York Jets (5-4) – Coming out of the bye, the
Jets have a chance to play themselves into the playoffs. They also have the
chance to play themselves out of the playoff picture too.
16. (16) Arizona Cardinals (5-4) – Above .500 now which is
incredible. Bruce Arians has done a very good job with this team and he doesn’t
always get credit. Quietly, the Cardinals are sitting in 7th place
in the NFC, one spot out of the playoffs.
17. (22) Baltimore Ravens (4-5) – They hung on against the
Bengals to inch a bit closer, but they simply don’t have enough offense this
year to challenge any of the elite teams on a regular basis.
18. (14) San Diego Chargers (4-5) – Similar to last week,
San Diego made things interesting at the end but couldn’t produce the plays
down the stretch when they needed too. Schedule is tough the rest of the way
due to K.C. twice, Denver again, and Cincy to boot.
19. (17) Miami Dolphins (4-5) – Miami had a great chance to
get back over .500 but failed against the lowly Bucs. This season started so
well, but now it’s gone.
20. (23) New York Giants (3-6) – Don’t look now but the
Giants have won three games in a row, got Andre Brown back (who looked great),
and play Green Bay next, who is starting their 3rd string QB.
21. (21) Cleveland Browns (4-5) – They’ve had the bye week
to help them prep for Cincy this week, which could pull them within a half game
in the division actually.
22. (28) St. Louis Rams (4-6) – The Rams put on a show in
Indy, which was one of the most impressive wins of the year by any team. Tavon
Austin finally lived up to his first round draft status.
23. (19) Washington Redskins (3-6) – Just as the Redskins
were starting to win, they lost a poor game to the Vikings. Momentum stopper.
24. (20) Tennessee Titans (4-5) – Jake Locker can’t catch a
break as he was injured again. Fitzpatrick played well in relief however.
25. (24) Oakland Raiders (3-6) – Close loss to the streaking
Giants due to an off game by Pryor. That’s the inconsistency you get from a
young QB.
26. (26) Pittsburgh Steelers (3-6) – Home win against the
lowly Bills is just what they needed, too bad they don’t have seven more games
like that.
27. (25) Buffalo Bills (3-7) – Manuel finally made his
return but he wasn’t good. He just needs more exposure to good teams though to
improve.
28. (30) Minnesota Vikings (2-7) – QB situation is still
murky, but they did play well on Thursday to grab another win. Helps when
Peterson can nab you two TD’s.
29. (27) Atlanta Falcons (2-7) – Should be lower but they
get Roddy back soon which has to help the offense right?
30. (29) Houston Texans (2-7) – Seven straight losses after
starting 2-0.
31.
(31) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8) – First win in the year was nice, and I saw it
coming for weeks now, as they’ve gotten closer and closer. Let’s hope Mike
James isn’t hurt too bad, cause he was playing great football.
32. (32) Jacksonville Jaguars (1-8) – Just
like TB, the Jags got their first win. I didn’t see it coming though so I was
actually impressed. Still the favorite to land #1 overall though in the draft.
