NFL Power Rankings
After Week 9
NOTE: Previous ranking is noted in the first parenthesis.
Current team record noted in the second parenthesis.
1. (1) Denver Broncos (7-1) – Only bye week concern would be
getting Julius Thomas over his minor injury and defense playing more
consistent. Oh and I hope Coach Fox recovers okay.
2. (2) Kansas City Chiefs (9-0) – First team in history to
start 9-0 and to hold every opponent to 17 points or less. Plus they scored two
more defensive TD’s Sunday.
3. (3) Seattle Seahawks (8-1) – Deserved to lose on Sunday
but managed to set their team record for biggest comeback. Don’t know what
happened in that first half.
4. (4) San Francisco 49ers (6-2) – We should see a healthier
and sharper team the second half of the year, which is a scary thought.
5. (9) New England Patriots (7-2) – The Patriot offense and
Tom Brady finally showed up. They are putting together all their pieces and the
rookie Dobson is gaining traction. I could see this team winning out.
6. (8) Indianapolis Colts (6-2) – Andrew Luck did what he
does so well… comeback to win it at the end. Not only was this a big divisional
game, but they showed they can win without Reggie Wayne.
7. (5) New Orleans Saints (6-2) – Graham looked good once
again, but Colston and Sproles are injured. Brees needs his weapons in order to
dominate. Without them, the Jets stopped them repeatedly.
8. (7) Cincinnati Bengals (6-3) – Andy Dalton’s hot streak
ended Thursday night in a loss at Miami. It doesn’t help when your offensive
line struggled in pass protection. The good news is that they are still easily
up in the division.
9. (6) Green Bay Packers (5-3) – The good news is that Eddie
Lacy and the run game is still smoking hot. The bad news is that Aaron Rodgers
got injured, and they lost at home to their division rivals. Now in a 3-way tie
for first place.
10. (10) Detroit Lions (5-3) – Their bye week was kind as it
got them into a tie for first place in the NFC North. A road showdown with the
Bears is coming this week.
11. (12) Dallas Cowboys (5-4) – Still doubt they can win a
playoff game with their defensive struggles, but Tony Romo generally bails them
out with his play. He led his team down the field late Sunday for a game
winning TD.
12. (13) Carolina Panthers (5-3) – Carolina has put
themselves in the debate for the best defense in the league. They also have
positioned themselves well for a playoff birth with a good second half of the
year.
13. (14) Chicago Bears (5-3) – The Bears won at Green Bay
for the first time in FOREVER. Not really but it’s been several years. This win
may have saved their season, especially with Jay Cutler set to return soon.
14. (11) San Diego Chargers (4-4) – San Diego blew a golden
opportunity Sunday with three plays at the one-yard line that got nothing. That
cost them, as they would lose in OT without touching the ball.
15. (17) New York Jets (5-4) – The Jets continued their
streak of one week good, and one week bad. Being above .500 is absolutely
stunning at this point in the year.
16. (16) Arizona Cardinals (4-4) – Wonder what Bruce Arians
can do during the bye. Will they get over .500 this week or go back under?
17. (18) Miami Dolphins (4-4) – Miami finally got back in
the win column pulling out a close one in OT. The running game is finally in
gear, but Tannehill is slumping compared to earlier this season.
18. (21) Philadelphia Eagles (4-5) – Foles was on fire
Sunday as they cruised to an easy win. It’s about time the offense got rolling
again. Is he the long-term answer though or was this a one-game-wonder?
19. (24) Washington Redskins (3-5) – Don’t look know but the
Redskins are playing good football. They turned it on late last season to
wrestle away a playoff birth. Do they have it in them again?
20. (25) Tennessee Titans (4-4) – Chris Johnson woke up this
week, and then went wild. He looked like the CJ2K of old. Glad to see they were
feeding him again.
21. (27) Cleveland Browns (4-5) – I’ve been hard on them as
a team without Brian Hoyer, but they still showed grit on Sunday. This is a
team a couple years away from making the playoffs. Just be patient Cleveland
fans.
22. (15) Baltimore Ravens (3-5) – Love that I was right
about Baltimore as a team that had a terrible offseason with their moves. It’s
showing up now.
23. (20) New York Giants (2-6) – They entered their bye
winning two in a row. That’s some good momentum to build on.
24. (19) Oakland Raiders (3-5) – The offense wasn’t good on
Sunday, but man was the defense bad. They got absolutely lit up by Foles,
particularly on deep balls.
25. (23) Buffalo Bills (3-6) – Showed fight and actually good
offense against the unbeaten Chiefs. Had they protected the ball better they
would have won.
26. (22) Pittsburgh Steelers (2-6) – Pittsburgh was right
there in the third quarter, then allowed Tom Brady to go off. Allowing 55
points is not something good Pittsburgh teams do.
27. (26) Atlanta Falcons (2-6) – Atlanta couldn’t get
anything going against a strong Carolina team. Still confused on why they didn’t
trade Gonzales, for this season is lost.
28. (28) St. Louis Rams (3-6) – Same thing as last week: “Spirited
effort against a superior team, but nothing but Stacy was clicking on offense.”
29. (29) Houston Texans (2-6) – Andre Johnson broke out of
his TD slump in a big way with three. But they still couldn’t hold off the
Colts despite a huge lead in the third quarter.
30. (30) Minnesota Vikings (1-7) – They had a late lead
against the Cowboys but couldn’t hold them off late.
31.
(31) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-8) – Nearly pulled off the biggest upset of the
year, or even the decade. But they couldn’t do anything in the second half,
which ultimately cost them the game in OT.
32. (32) Jacksonville Jaguars (0-8) – You
think they can turn things around after the bye week? LOL. Not even close.
