Playoffs Recap

It was another exciting day in the NFL on Sunday. Here's a recap of what took place and what is to come:

- Peyton Manning dominated... Facing his arch rival (Tom Brady/Patriots) in the playoffs (where he has "struggled"), Peyton threw for over 400 yards with two TD's and 0 turnovers. He also was great on third down as that helped dominate time of possession and it led to a lot of scoring drives.

- San Francisco lost the game (Seattle didn't win it)... Credit to Seattle for making a great play at the end (and others throughout), but honestly that was simply a bad decision by Kaep. SF was up the whole game but had three turnovers in the fourth quarter (including that last play). Also, they allowed a desperate 4th and long attempt to go for a 34 yard TD. Quite simply, the 49ers lost this game by shooting themselves in the foot.

- The Denver defense played great. It started with a strong rushing front, as they held the Patriots running backs in check. But the secondary played well too and limited Tom Brady. The only thing I'll pick on is that they didn't force any turnovers.

- Seattle is terrific defending against the pass. Not only do they have great cornerbacks, but they defend well with their safeties and linebackers, and create good pressure on the QB with their front. Kaep struggled all day and they really only hurt Seattle with the running game. This strength should make it interesting in the Super Bowl as Denver passes it a lot.

- Injuries played a role on Sunday. Big names like Moreno, Talib, Iupati, and Bowman all left their respective games. There were other minor injuries also. The Patriots and Broncos have had defensive stars out for a while (namely Von Miller and Vince Wilfork), and Seattle WR Percy Harvin also missed that game. I'm sure injuries will play a role during the Super Bowl also.

- Peyton Manning needed that game for his legacy. He also needs to win the Super Bowl. If he does, I think he will clearly be the best of all-time once and for all. He will have won 2 Super Bowls (with different teams), will have a respectable postseason record again (above .500), will have an even 2-2 record against fellow great Tom Brady in the playoffs, and obviously has all those MVP's and historic regular seasons to his name. If he loses, everything is still up for debate.

- Richard Sherman is a jerk and is embarrassing to his team, coach, and franchise... but I'd still want him. Make no mistake, Sherman probably is the best cornerback in the league. But his post-game interview was terrible, cocky, and disrespectful. If I'm on Seattle or coaching them, I'd be furious with what he said and how he said it. It was clearly a knock on Crabtree too, which was just stupid. BUT, if I'm Seattle I'm happy he's on my team because he is great at football and gives them a great chance at winning a ring. It's also great that he has confidence in himself, but I do wish he'd control himself better.

That's all for now. Super Bowl preview next week!
