College Football Saturday

College Football Picks
Greg: 27 – 12
Andrew: 25 – 14

Last week we finally saw Alabama get tested, but they passed the test by winning at LSU. It was the first night game LSU has ever lost at home at night. This week both squads will be tested again against ranked opponents. Kansas State also stepped up last week, but Klein did get injured. Now they face pesky TCU on the road. Dangerous? Oregon also won in a marquee game, but now have a much easier task. But they can’t overlook any team; just ask Notre Dame what happens then, as they nearly lost a week ago to unranked Pitt. November marks crunch time for many teams across the nation. What does this week have in store?

15 Texas A&M at 1 Alabama

Alabama faces a very good offensive team this week in Texas A&M. Johnny Manziel may be the best freshman in the nation and he has been great at QB for the Aggies. I think he will have some nice drives, but I think the Crimson Tide defense will force him into some turnovers. That will be the difference in the game. – Andrew
Probably the best game of the SEC season so far. Good contrast in styles, and should be an entertaining game to watch (unless you're driving 8 hours in a day round trip to a wedding). I see Alabama winning this game again, because they are at home. - Greg

Andrew: Alabama 30, Texas A&M 24
Greg: Alabama 27 , Texas A&M 17

21 Mississippi State at 7 LSU

Mississippi State struggled in a big matchup last week against Texas A&M. Although they don’t face that good of an offense, they face a much better defense. LSU is angry and is coming off an emotional loss. Their crowd will be fired up. I smell trouble in this game and the Tigers could blow it open. The defense will score at least one touchdown just like the Chicago Bears. – Andrew
I completely agree with Andrew here. I think MSU received their ranking after beating up on weaker SEC talent.  Once they have hit the meat of their schedule, they have really struggled, and I don't see that changing this week. LSU wins big. - Greg
Andrew: LSU 34, Mississippi State 10
Greg: LSU 30, Mississippi State 17

11 Oregon State at 14 Stanford

This is a big Pac-12 matchup in the standings as both teams are 5-1 in the conference. I think both teams are fairly evenly matched and both are considered defensive teams. Honestly I think the difference is home field. And since Stanford will have that advantage, I’ll take them in by a field goal. – Andrew
Other than the Alabama/Texas A&M game this will be the most exciting of the week.  Two evenly matched teams that don't turn the ball over and play great defense. I think Stanford is a little bit better, but that is only because I haven't watched OSU play yet this year.  Advantage home team. - Greg

Andrew: Stanford 20, Oregon State 17
Greg: Stanford 13, Oregon State 10

 24 Northwestern at Michigan

Northwestern has been one of the most impressive teams in the Big Ten this year, although that’s not saying much… But despite the fact they have been better this season, the Wildcats won’t be better on Saturday. The Wolverines will be too tough on the ground, and the defense will step up. Northwestern’s inclusion in the Top 25 will be short lived. Sorry! – Andrew
I love Northwestern. Pat Fitzgerald is probably my favorite coach in the country (Tied with Mike Gundy) and his teams always play hard.  They had a tough time finishing off Nebraska at home with a 4th quarter lead and Penn State on the road with a 4th quarter lead.  They fix those issues this week and win a shootout in Ann Arbor. - Greg

Andrew: Michigan 28, Northwestern 17
Northwestern 48, Michigan 42

Andrew's Upset-Wisconsin at Indiana

I know we typically only discuss nationally relevant games, but Greg and I live in Indiana and this is my favorite team. Plus, despite what people think, this game is huge for the Hoosiers. Because Penn State and Ohio State are ineligible for the postseason, IU can actually make the Big Ten title game if they finish strong, and then they’d have a chance at the Rose Bowl. Of course, the same can be said of Wisconsin who can clinch their Big Ten Championship Game birth with a win. IU has lost some heartbreakers this year, which has hurt their record, but Wisconsin has underachieved also. In this game, I think momentum will play a factor. I say that Wisconsin takes an early lead but IU will steal momentum and come back to win. This is a pick with my heart! – Andrew

Andrew:   Indiana 35, Wisconsin 28

Greg’s Upset: Penn State over 16 Nebraska
I hate Penn State. I hate the university. I hate the football program. I hate the motivational speeches at the expense of the abused children, I hate all of it. But I think they win this game. Nebraska is primed for a slip up at home, and I just think it happens to come against Penn State.
Penn State 36 Nebraska 33 (OT)

  1. In terms of the games, the national title looks differently today than yesterday. Alabama's loss puts K-State, Oregon, and ND in a better spot. There is a lot to be determined still but those three, who are still unbeaten, seem to be the best bets.

In terms of picks, Andrew went 3-2, Greg went 2-3. Greg remains ahead by one game in the overall standings.

  2. PS: Louisville lost also for the first time yesterday eliminating the possibility of a Big East undefeated Champ.
