Week 9 Power Rankings

NFL Power Rankings
Through Week 9

Andrew – 701 Points (82-50) – Winner of Week 9
Greg – 665 Points (77-55)
NOTE: Last week’s rank is noted in the first parenthesis. Current team record noted in the second parenthesis.

1. (1) Atlanta Falcons (8-0) – The Falcons aren’t as dominant as other teams are, but they are still the class of the league. On Sunday night, it was their defense that caught my eye as elite, which hasn’t always been the case this year. – Andrew

2. (3) Chicago Bears (7-1) – I’m trying not to be a prisoner of the moment but this defense is up there with the best of all time in NFL history. The number of turnovers they cause and their ability to then capitalize with touchdowns astounds me. The offense finally did their part a little better on Sunday too. – Andrew

3. (2) Houston Texans (7-1) – The offense is supposedly potent, but their numbers don't add up to as many points as they should. They move down a spot this week as a result of losing to a the same opponent as the Bears, but doing so at home and by a large margin. - Greg

4. (5) San Francisco 49ers (6-2) –Bye week lock this week. They didn't have any injuries, and this week will only help them get healthier. - Greg

5. (6) Green Bay Packers (6-3) – They have dealt with the injury to Greg Jennings well because Randall Cobb is turning into an All-Pro wide receiver. He had another great game Sunday to lead them to victory again. – Andrew

6. (7) New England Patriots (5-3) – Bye week lock as well. This team IS banged up and they needed this badly. Belichick coming out today voted as second most overrated coach in the league can't help them much. - Greg

7. (8) Denver Broncos (5-3) – Peyton Manning was 18/18 on his short throws Sunday matching Aaron Rodgers as the only players to be perfect while attempting that many short passes. He keeps improving throughout the year, as does the rest of his team. – Andrew

8. (9) Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) – Good win on the road at the Giants, and they're getting production out of the RB position even with a plethora of injuries there and on the O-line. - Greg

9.(4) New York Giants (6-3) – After jumping out to a lead early, they couldn’t hang on. I don’t blame
the defense though but the offense. The Giants haven’t been producing that well recently, particularly in the passing game. – Andrew

10. (10) Baltimore Ravens (6-2) – They won again, but three of their wins this year so far have come against Cincinnati and Cleveland. They should have a much worse record in the second half. - Greg

11. (12) Indianapolis Colts (5-3) – Andrew Luck set a rookie record Sunday with his 433-yard game. More importantly, Coach Pagano is getting healthier and can return to the sidelines, plus they are in line for the playoffs as we speak (five seed currently). – Andrew

12. (14) Detroit Lions (4-4)– They are out of the playoff race, but they are playing like they don't know it. - Greg

13. (15) Seattle Seahawks (5-4) – Beat another good team at home on Sunday. Wilson is really playing good football now and Lynch has been in “Beast Mode”all year. Although the defense struggled with AD, they did a great job against the Vikings stopping the air attack. – Andrew

14. (19) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4) – I'd just like to predict that I picked this team to win the division this year, and while they're not in the division lead, they are ahead of the Saints thanks to the Muscle Hamster. - Greg

15. (11) Miami Dolphins (4-4) – Lost a tight one Sunday against a fellow wildcard contending team (Colts). The defense has been solid all year but giving up that many yards through the air (433) is somewhat alarming. – Andrew

16. (13) Minnesota Vikings (5-4) – AD ran wild again against a great defense, but they still lost. Although there is no shame in losing at Seattle, I ponder whether Ponder can get this team to the playoffs. – Andrew

17. (20) New Orleans Saints (3-5) – Were saved from another loss by the ineptness of the Philly offense. The defense is still on pace (yardage-wise) to be the worst in NFL history. - Greg

18. (26) San Diego Chargers (4-4) – Moved up due to an easy win over a hapless Kansas City team. The good news for the Chargers is that they get to play them again this season. - Greg

19. (17) Dallas Cowboys (3-5) – They are still searching for answers in Dallas. You have to commend the defense for only giving up 19 points to the formidable Falcons offense, but only scoring 13 is dreadful for the Cowboy offense. Maybe Dez should have spent more time focusing on football than
breaking curfew. – Andrew

20. (16) Philadelphia Eagles (3-5) – The offensive line may as well be stuck in cement and made of paper; they'd be just as successful stopping the rush. - Greg

21. (18) Washington Redskins (3-6) – The Redskins really hurt themselves by losing to Carolina on Sunday. A win would have kept them alive in the playoff race. Now RGIII will be like Cam last year, a great fantasy quarterback leading a team that doesn’t know how to win in real life. – Andrew

22. (24) Oakland Raiders (3-5) – Run DMC is out for an unspecified amount of time with a high ankle sprain, which always takes longer to heal than expected. - Greg

23. (23) New York Jets (3-5) – The Jets needed a bye week to try and get some answers on offense, and to avoid questions about their starting QB situation. –Andrew

24. (25) Buffalo Bills (3-5) – All in all had a pretty decent showing in Houston. Its amazing how many teams can be so mediocre for so long. - Greg

25. (21) Arizona Cardinals (4-5) – Don’t you feel bad for Larry Fitzgerald? He needs to be traded because staying in the desert is a waste of his talent. – Andrew

26. (30) Carolina Panthers (2-6) – Surprised everyone by beating Washington this week and trying to predict a replacement at the head of our country. - Greg

27. (22) Cleveland Browns (2-7) – This team continues to improve, and has played the ravens close in both games. If they get a little better at the WR,DL and LB spots in the draft they could be really good. - Greg

28. (27) Tennessee Titans (3-6) – Good news: Chris Johnson had another good game rushing… Bad news: he fumbled twice and the team turned it over six times. – Andrew

29. (28) Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) – The Bengals simply can’t get anything going outside of AJ Green. They need more playmakers on both sides of the ball to keep pace in their tough division. – Andrew

30. (29) St. Louis Rams (3-5) – Jeff Fisher's magic is running out. The bye week should help though. - Greg

31. (31) Jacksonville Jaguars (1-7) –Big game against the Colts this week. Indy is the only team that JAX has beaten this year and they need this game at home. - Greg

32. (32) Kansas City Chiefs (1-7) – Alabama thinks they can beat some pro teams. This is one of them. – Andrew
