College Football Saturday

College Football Picks

Greg:              29 – 15
Andrew:         28 – 16

Last week was a doozy. The BCS picture looks mighty different now. Number one Alabama went down to “Johnny Football” and the Texas A&M Aggies. Undefeated Louisville also lost their first game. New #1 K-State has a tricky road game. New #2 Oregon has a tough game as well. #3 Notre Dame (not mentioned below) has an easy game, but the fourth undefeated team (Ohio State) has a very tough road game also. Too bad the Buckeyes can’t play in the postseason! Here are our thoughts and picks:

1 Kansas State at Baylor

This game may not garner massive attention this week, but it’s a HUGE game for the Wildcats. They are two victories from an undefeated season, and this is the “easiest” one. Therefore it could be a trap game, particularly on the road. The Bears will likely treat this as their Super Bowl. Baylor’s offense is dangerous but their defense isn’t. It could be a higher scoring game but I do think Klein and company hang on. – Andrew

Should be another high scoring game, but K-state has had success shutting down teams with defending this type of offense and I don't think Baylor has any real threat of dethroning the #1 team in the country this weekend. – Greg

Andrew:         Kansas State 38, Baylor 31
Greg:              Kansas State 49, Baylor 28

13 Stanford at 2 Oregon

Total clash in styles here. Oregon plays fast and scores a lot. Stanford is a slower tempo team and relies on their defense. Stanford is also coming off a big win last week and they have momentum. So will any of this matter? Nope. Oregon’s offense will once again be too much. They are destined for the National Championship Game. – Andrew

Stanford will play hard and make it tough for Oregon this week, but Oregon will simply be too much at home for the Cardinal to overcome. Oregon wins in a well-played football game. – Greg

Andrew:         Oregon 45, Stanford 28
Greg:              Oregon 45, Stanford 31

12 Oklahoma at West Virginia

On paper, Landry Jones and Geno Smith should be an amazing matchup of two talented quarterbacks for great teams. But as it turns out, this game isn’t as important as it could have been. Don’t get me wrong, both are still good quarterbacks, but their teams haven’t achieved as much as they had hoped this year. West Virginia in particular has been playing terrible, and their streak continues here. – Andrew

I don't really expect this game to be that close either. Oklahoma has too good of an offense to slip up against an abysmal defense like West Virginia. – Greg

Andrew:         Oklahoma 41, West Virginia 35
Greg:              Oklahoma 55, West Virginia 28

18 USC at 17 UCLA

UCLA has been playing well of late, and USC has disappointed in nearly every big game this year. But that doesn’t matter. I still believe in the Trojan talent and believe they will go into a hostile environment and win. I say Matt Barkley goes off and catches the attention of scouts once again. – Andrew

Coach Jim Mora has the Bruins back in the National spotlight in his first season and they are having a phenomenal season.  Unfortunately they will lose to USC this year, but probably not in the next few years.  I just don't see them able to match up athletically against USC's offense. – Greg

Andrew:         USC 42, UCLA 39
Greg:              USC 38, UCLA 27

23 Texas Tech at 24 Oklahoma State

Honestly this could be one of the more even matchups of the week. There is one difference though in my mind. Oklahoma State is in a dilemma this week with whom they will start at QB. Texas Tech is set with Seth Doege. The Red Raiders will surely be motivated after being embarrassed 66-6 last year. So I’ll take the road team here in a close game. – Andrew

A whale of a game here that should be wide open. Oklahoma State has played better and better every week this season and TT has played a little worse over the last 3 or 4 weeks. OK State wins this one. – Greg

Andrew:         Texas Tech 55, Oklahoma State 52
Greg:              Oklahoma State 40, Texas Tech 37

Ohio State at Wisconsin

It really is too bad that Ohio State is banned. I’d love to see if they could make a push for the title game. They are 10-0 and the clear top team in the Big Ten. This week though they take on Wisconsin, who just clinched a birth into the conference championship game. As much as I’d like to see OSU go unbeaten, I think their perfect season ends here. Montee Ball will have a great game and the Badgers keep rolling. – Andrew

Ohio State beat a MUCH better Wisconsin team last year, and Ohio State is much improved this season. Braxton Miller will go off in this game and OSU will win big in Madison. – Greg

Andrew:         Wisconsin 28, Ohio State 24
Greg:              Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 21

Enjoy your Saturday!

  1. Greg now takes over in the standings. He only went 3-3 but Andrew went 1-5. Greg up 3 games... tough to overcome this late in the year.

On a college football note, Notre Dame is now in a great spot with Oregon and Kansas State losing. Plus Barkley may be too injured to play next week when they go to USC.

The battle of 1 loss teams for the other spot is on! Alabama has the edge there but the conference championships games will make things interesting. Don't overlook Georgia.
