Week
2 brought us some thrills and great games, and of course the Top 25 changed.
The SEC has taken a beating early seeing as South Carolina, Georgia, and
Florida already lost once. There will be another this week for sure as Alabama
and Texas A&M play (Tennessee also will lose at Oregon). Should be exciting
once again though across the football landscape, in fact, TCU lost again last
night starting the week wacky already.
Picks
Standings
Andrew: 6 – 4
Greg: 5 – 5
Andrew
hangs on to the lead for now, but Greg has momentum heading into week 3. Let’s
see what we think about these games:
1 Alabama at
6 Texas A&M
Andrew:
Texas A&M - Obviously, this game
will get all the attention, and it deserves it. Alabama is clearly the top team
in the country, and Johnny Manziel is probably the best player in the country,
despite all the headaches he brings. Last year, Manziel went nuts as he led
A&M to an upset on the road over the Crimson Tide. In fact, I believe that
game won him the Heisman. And I think it happens again. He is the Achilles heel
for Alabama. Expect the upset!
Greg:
Alabama - Johnny Manziel will not
win another Heisman trophy, he also will not beat Alabama again. Last year's
Texas A&M team was much better than this year's Texas A&M team,
particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Alabama is probably a
little better defensively this year than last, and offensively as well. Manziel
will have to have the game of his life, again, to defeat Alabama a second time,
and I am not betting on that.
Andrew: Texas A&M 34, Alabama 30
Greg: Alabama 35, Texas A&M 24
16 UCLA at 23
Nebraska
Andrew:
Nebraska - Very good Big Ten/Pac 12
matchup (one of many on the day actually). I especially anticipate a battle
between quarterbacks Brett Hundley and Taylor Martinez. Overall, I think the
matchup is fairly even. The difference to me is that Nebraska is such a tough
place to play, and I say that is the difference.
Greg:
Nebraska - Early season Big Ten - Pac-12
matchup in Big Ten country. These teams are fairly evenly matched, but since
the game is being played in Lincoln, I'm going with the Cornhuskers. Taylor
Martinez really should shine this season.
Andrew: Nebraska 42, UCLA 35
Greg:
Nebraska 23, UCLA 17
20 Wisconsin at
Arizona State
Andrew:
Wisconsin – Call me a Big Ten lover,
but I got to give the edge to the road team here. Both teams have pitched
shutouts in their three combined games. That’s impressive, but will be far from
the case here. I expect a massive shootout, and Wisconsin has won more of those
in the last couple years than the Sun Devils have.
Greg:
Arizona State - No Big Ten team has
won in Tempe in quite some time, maybe ever. The Sun Devils aren't that great a
team, but at home against a Big Ten opponent they are huge favorites. I'm going
with the Sun Devils.
Andrew: Wisconsin 45, Arizona State 42
Greg: Arizona State 38, Wisconsin 26
25 Ole Miss
at Texas
Andrew:
Texas – This is a big game for both
sides. Texas lost at BYU last week in a bit of a shocker (although predicted
here by Greg). They can’t afford to drop two in a row, particularly outside of
conference. Ole Miss has started 2-0 and has a chance to make some noise in the
crowded SEC. Who wants it more? Texas is a bit beat up right now, but I like
their chances to bounce back nonetheless.
Greg:
Ole Miss - While it is difficult for
me to pick against Texas two weeks in a row (I correctly picked BYU's upset of
them last week), I really don't think Texas is that good. Ole Miss might be in
the lower half of the SEC, but that makes them still better than Texas. The
Rebels win in Texas.
Andrew: Texas 28, Ole Miss 27
Greg: Ole Miss 35, Texas 20
21 Notre Dame
at Purdue
Andrew:
Notre Dame – Although Notre Dame and
Purdue both lost last week, Notre Dame’s loss was respectable. Purdue was just
awful. Although neither offense is a world-beater, Purdue has been downright
despicable averaging just 13.5 points per game. I expect an easy win on the
road for the Irish.
Greg:
Notre Dame - This game will not be
close. Purdue is flat-out bad. Look for the Irish to set offensive and
defensive records in this game as they win by a landslide.
Andrew: Notre Dame 30, Purdue 10
Greg: Notre
Dame 50, Purdue 7
Enjoy week 3!

This week Greg went 4-1 for the second consecutive week, bringing his record to a less than stellar 9-6 through 3 weeks. Andrew went 1-4 to bring his record to 7-8 overall. He should bounce back this week.
