NFL Power Rankings
After Week 1
NOTE: Previous ranking is noted in the first parenthesis.
Current team record noted in the second parenthesis.
1. (1) Denver Broncos (1-0) – Manning’s seven TD’s was
incredible to watch, particularly against the defending champs on opening
night!
2. (4) San Francisco 49ers (1-0) – Kaepernick seems to be
the real deal, especially considering he dominated Green Bay with his arm, not
his legs.
3. (3) Seattle Seahawks (1-0) – Defense looked great on
Sunday, but the offense needs to catch up in a hurry with the 49ers coming to
town.
4. (6) Houston Texans (1-0) – Terrible start to the game on
Monday night, but Schaub looked like a capable QB in the comeback. That’s the
area I thought they were bad in!
5. (2) New England Patriots (1-0) – As I stated in my NFL
preview, the defense seems to be as good as the offense now. Through week 1,
call me a prophet.
6. (5) Atlanta Falcons (0-1) – Don’t panic Atlanta, you guys
never win at New Orleans, particularly in an emotional game with the return of
Sean Payton.
7. (7) Green Bay Packers (0-1) – If they don’t figure out
their defense, it could be a long season in an extremely competitive division.
8. (13) Chicago Bears (1-0) – Must improve the offensive
line… check. Must be more balanced on offense… check. Cutler must make quicker,
better decisions… check.
9. (8) Indianapolis Colts (1-0) – Good thing they don’t face a running quarterback every
week, because that seems to be their fatal flaw.
10.
(15) Dallas Cowboys (1-0) – As long as Tony Romo and Dez Bryant aren’t too beat
up, they began the season just as Jerry Jones envisioned.
11.
(20) New Orleans Saints (1-0) – Wanna hear something scary: the Saints defense
carried them to victory on Sunday.
12.
(12) Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) – Better coaching and they would have won a big
road game at Chicago. Good thing every team in the division lost also.
13. (32)
Kansas City Chiefs (1-0) – What a difference an offseason can make. They ended
last year 32 in our last poll, but they played like a playoff team on Sunday.
14.
(24) Detroit Lions (1-0) – We all wondered if Reggie Bush could add something
special to their offense… I vote yes!
15.
(30) Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) – I had no doubts that a college system could
work in the NFL. Thanks for proving me right Chip (and Greg wrong)!
16.
(17) St. Louis Rams (1-0) – We’ve been waiting for Jared Cook to live up to his
potential and it finally happened. I guess a change to Sam Bradford helps too.
17.
(11) Baltimore Ravens (0-1) – Is there a reason to panic: No. Is there a reason
to worry: Yes.
18.
(18) Carolina Panthers (0-1) – Defense proved to be great, just as we said in
the preseason. The problem is that the offense looked fairly weak.
19.
(9) Washington Redskins (0-1) – Washington simply didn’t show up until the
second half. Can’t come back in the NFL if you wait that long.
20.
(14) New York Giants (0-1) – Nobody can win when you have 6 turnovers, even if
Eli throws for 450+.
21.
(22) Miami Dolphins (1-0) – Even in the win, I wasn’t overly impressed with the
team outside of Hartline. Prove me wrong this week!
22.
(19) San Diego Chargers (0-1) – Valiant effort on Monday night but couldn’t
hang on. They also cost me money in Fanduel letting Andre Johnson go off!
23.
(10) Minnesota Vikings (0-1) – After a great run early, AD didn’t do much on
Sunday outside of punching it in from close range. Not gonna get 2,500 yards
that way.
24.
(23) Buffalo Bills (0-1) – CJ Spiller has to be more explosive if they want to
win ballgames, particularly against the elite teams like NE.
25.
(28) Arizona Cardinals (0-1) – I fully expect Arizona to charge up these
rankings because they are much better than 25th. But that is where
they fell this time after collapsing in the fourth.
26.
(26) Tennessee Titans (1-0) – Good to see them sticking to the run.
27.
(27) New York Jets (1-0) – It was ugly, but Geno Smith is undefeated as a NFL
starter. Didn’t think you’d hear me say that, even at this point.
28.
(16) Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1) – They played as poorly as I’ve seen them play
in a decade. Could be a long year.
29. (21)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) – The defense was okay minus a late penalty, but
when will this offense realize its potential?
30.
(25) Cleveland Browns (0-1) – Similar to the Cardinals, I fully expect
Cleveland to rise up in these rankings. They are better than this by a
landslide.
31.
(29) Oakland Raiders (0-1) – Pryor gives them hope, until he gets injured
running too much that is.
32. (31) Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) – Best
thing that happened to them was that Gabbert got injured, so now they can be
competitive with Henne.
