Andrew's Weekend Super 6

Coming into this weekend there are some major headlines:

1. NBA Conference Finals - In the Eastern Conference, Miami holds the 2-0 edge, but Boston was right there in Game 2. In Game 3, Boston will play well, Pierce won't foul out, and the C's will make this a series by winning. With that momentum, Boston will hold serve by winning Game 4 as well.

In the Western Conference, OKC stopped the Spurs streak. The Thunder have a great home court advantage and slowed down San Antonio's offense. Will they win Game 4 to level the series... no! The Spurs will take Game 4, then close them out in Game 5 at home. They are too good as a team, Tony Parker is too good as an individual, and they have the best coach in the game.

2. Stanley Cup - The Kings won yet another road game to start the finals. Their run in this year's playoffs has been extraordinary (as I said in my blog yesterday). Game 2 will be a pivotal game though. If the Kings go up 2-0 taking both road games, the series is basically over. If the Devils can win, they have a chance to steal back home ice advantage by splitting in LA.

I think the Kings will continue their run of destiny. They are 13-2 in the playoffs so far, 9-0 on the road. They continue that streak by taking Game 2 by the score of 3-2. They will score their game winner with about ten minutes to go. How's that for a prediction?

3. The Memorial - On Thursday, Tiger and Rory put themselves in contention. Can they fight it out this weekend... no and yes. One of them will be right up there come Sunday, but one will fall back. I don't think either will win however.

Adam Scott shot a solid round in Round 1. He has been quiet for a while, but seems to show up in big events like these. He will find the magic with his belly putter and pull it out in an exciting Sunday finish. This will really prepare him nicely for the US Open which is only weeks away. He would love to win his first major.

4. The Start of Fantasy Football - You may be thinking, what is he talking about? Starting today (June 1), many sites opened up their fantasy football leagues. That means people will be signing up, starting to research, and will be practicing drafting through the mocks. I play on Yahoo so that's where I'll be.

The interesting thing about fantasy football this year is that there are so many question marks. There are some contract situations. There are tons of guys coming back from injuries, some large. There are faces in new places. There are 2-back teams vs. 1-back teams. There are chemistry problems potentially with receivers. And there are rookies that could be great or be busts in fantasy. Of course, this weekend isn't the time to worry about that.

5. French Open - The second slam in tennis reaches it's midpoint this weekend. On the women's side, things have been weird. They have seen the 3, 5, and 8 seed lose already, including Serena who was 17-0 on clay entering the event. Sharapova, who hasn't ever been good on clay, is playing amazing and has a chance to win. Of course, my pick Stosur is quietly moving on through too. Should be fun this weekend as the match-ups get much tougher at this point.

On the men's side, it's the same old stories. The top seeds are moving through. The Americans stink and are already out. Nadal looks unbeatable. And there are some up and comers who look promising but won't do anything. The good thing about this though is that we're due for some amazing matches soon. We will see the best play the best and it should be fun.

6. International Soccer - Across the globe teams have been playing friendly's in preparation for Olympics, World Cup Qualifying, etc. The US looked great a week ago but struggled Wednesday. On Sunday they take on Canada.

Coming off that spirited yet sloppy loss to Brazil, I expect the US to clean things up. I plan on seeing most of our tops guns play, and play well. I expect the US to score around three times and I plan on the defense tightening up and possibly getting the shutout. Either way, it's fun to talk about the US Soccer team again in a positive light.

Be sure to check out these events and the other sports that are happening this weekend. Feel free to comment with your own predictions. That's what friends do!

Andrew
